from Star Wars Books:

Star Wars Books is a guide to over 400 official books and short stories from the Star Wars galaxy.

Each book or story is catalogued as an event occurring before or after The Battle of Yavin* (the events portrayed in the original 1977 Star Wars film) and categorized according to their relevant era.

Star Wars Timeline Gold

by

Nathan P. Butler

from Star Wars Timeline Gold

In the case of the Star Wars saga, I'd like to think that the historian in question, or one of the historians in question, is me. My name is Nathan P. Butler, and I... am an obsessive Star Wars fan.

In late 1997, I created a 4-page MS Works document listing all of the major Star Wars materials up to that point in chronological order for my own use while reading the Official Continuity. After several friends asked for copies and I came to run a now-defunct Star Wars online fan club, I revamped the document into The Star Wars Timeline 1.0 and released it via email to friends and club members. Over the past few years, the original document that contained only a title listing has grown into a document of over 1,200 pages contained in one Primary and one Supplemental file, which now include events, summaries, the Official Continuity, the four Canonical Timelines, dozens of alternate reality "Apocryphal" Timelines, and more. I am both happily surprised and proud to say that the SWT, now called The Star Wars Timeline Gold has surpassed all of my expectations to become one of the most complete, accurate, and well-respected chronologies of the Star Wars saga on the Internet. (The thing even helped land me a gig writing for Star Wars Tales in 2004. Imagine that!)

StarWarsTimeline.Net

by

Joe “Darth Bane” Bongiorno

from starwarstimeline.net:

This site actually began over thirteen years ago as a concept on a single piece of paper.  In 1992, Star Wars began a literary revival with the release of a new line of books from Bantam as well as the Dark Empire comic series from Dark Horse Comics.  As my interest in Star Wars returned with the new stories being published by various different authors, I decided it would be useful to have framework by which anyone could follow the ongoing storyline in the correct chronological order in which the stories took place.  Lucasfilm, the governing body that oversaw the production of new material went to great pains to ensure continuity within the various media being released (which is logical, but not necessarily a common practice), but as the history of this universe began to grow, it became a challenge for new readers to know where to begin.

Star Wars: Expanded Universe Chronology

by

Rob “Mira Lodo” Mullin

from Star Wars: Expanded Universe Chronology:

Since this is my first foray into public timeline-dom, I suppose that a brief introduction is necessary. My name is Rob Mullin, and I am an aspiring writer. Frequenters of the forums at the Official Site or the Dark Horse Star Wars boards will know me as Mira Lodo (it’s a name I stole from Get Smart; extra credit to the person who can name the episode).

I kept up my own attempts at a timeline that would be a quick reference point, so that I could easily go to my bookshelf and see in what order this ever-increasing spate of stories took place. It took me years to get to the point at which I found myself actually completely satisfied with the format, but I believe I have finally “arrived”.

Echo Station Timeline

Matthew Justice

from Echo Station Timeline:

The Star Wars universe can often be a bit intimidating for those trying to plunge in to the mythical galaxy that it presents. One particular issue of concern for many Star Wars enthusiasts is chronology. The order of events is not always apparent, nor is the order of certain books. It is my intent to provide a concise chronological listing of major events and the corresponding books, movies, etc. that relate to those events. Video games and works of young adult fiction are not covered at this time.

I have listed events and various media by when they occur in the Star Wars universe, relative to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Relative dating in this manner is the commonly accepted method for Star Wars chronological reference. As a final note, this timeline makes no distinction between "canon" material and extended material.
