Word of Welcome

This work is dedicated with all of my love to the three girls in my life:

Stephanie, Dorianne and Laurinde

Welcome to my little pet-project. As a long-time Star Wars fan (I have been collecting since age 14 in 1983), I have read and downloaded many different timelines over the years but always found they were not complete enough for my tastes. But then again, over the years I have been a completist and would like to read every entry possible in a timeline. I have begun work on my timeline in 1990, before Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire or Dark Horse Comics’ Dark Empire series. I thought this was a great time to begin such a timeline as Star Wars was considered ‘dead’ in the late ‘80s, with only West End Games continuing their roleplaying games.

Boy, was I wrong!

At the end of the ‘80s, all stuff published to be included in a timeline were the movies, the novelizations, several new fiction publications, a few juvenile books, 100+ comicbooks and a few roleplay adventure books. But then, in 1991, I learned of a new book to be published called Heir to the Empire. I did not expect this to be the beginning of a new Star Wars era.

But I digress: As I mentioned, I started work on my timeline in 1990. And by the end of 2002, I accumulated a timeline of 10.000 A4 pages (Times New Roman 11 in Microsoft Word). I had never saved my work anywhere, safe for a few emails I did send to people who were interested. You guess what happened: a small virus wiped everything out like a blast from the Death Star! I have to admit that in a way, I did not really mind, as in the beginning of working on the timeline, I was not as thorough as I was in the latter years: so this was a nice way to start all-over again, which I did in the summer of 2002 with beginning a chronology for the Clone Wars.

It has not been my intend to put my timeline on the Internet in its current state, but realizing that it will be many more years before it is completed (books, comics and games are published very shortly after one-another these days), I grabbed the chance when it came upon me. Being completely dumbfounded when it comes to computers, a friend of mine helped me to put my first page on the Internet a few days ago (september 2004), and since then i have been caught by the virus.

As you can read in the main page, this website is still under construction, and will continue to be so in the very far future with files and pages being added all the time. The best way to see which items are already incorporated is to check out the ‘sources’ at the bottom of the main page. Here I will keep score of what items are already incorporated in the timeline. Entries published in red incidate that I am still in the process of scanning the book, so new entries from that source will appear in the future.

About the timeline itself: I have chosen to use the Great ReSynchronization as the starting year for my historical chronology: for example, Star Wars: A New Hope takes place in year 35 of the Great ReSynchronization. And years before the Great ReSynchronization are measured against the establishment of the New Republic (in the year of Return of the Jedi). For instance, Tales of the Jedi takes place 4,004 standard years before the Establishment of the New Republic.

I have tried to narrow down dates to the day, but this is offcourse impossible for every entry. Entries published in blue indicate they are in the right year (established by its source or other official sources). Thus, the blue dating system are the correct dates of the event measured against a 10-standard-month year (as established by West End Games). Dates published in grey are conjectured. Complete entries in red are conjectured to take place in the year they are placed in.

Well, I hope you like what I am trying to accomplish. You can mail me at ed.heijden@planet.nl for any suggestions or questions.

Greetings and thanks for visiting,

                Eddie

p.s. And for all of you who want to advise me to get a life, I want to mention that I already do have one: I am a married man, father of two wonderful little girls (Dorianne of 6 and Laurinde of almost 3) with many social contacts. I work on my timeline in the early hours of the morning (6:00 am) before going off to work, and sometimes in the evenings when the kids are asleep and my wife is busy on the phone or with her hobbies.

I just had to get that off my chest!
