Greetings, fellow Star Wars fans and chronologists!
Since this is my first foray into public timeline-dom, I suppose that a
brief introduction is necessary. My name is Rob Mullin, and I am an aspiring
writer. Frequenters of the forums at the Official Site or the Dark Horse Star
Wars boards will know me as Mira Lodo (it’s a name I stole from Get
Smart; extra credit to the person who can name the episode). I’ve just
recently gone through the ordeal of my thirtieth birthday, and still haven’t
quite figured out what to do with my life (though I’m leaning towards something
in the sciences; cryptozoology has been a passion of mine since I was a wee
tot, and after spending time in Africa looking for unclassified animals, I’m
hooked--I can’t wait for the next trip).
If you are a fan of the modern phenomenon that is the Star Wars
Expanded Universe, you know that many have attempted to make sense of the vast
media palette that represents the fictitious history of the Galaxy Far, Far
Away. Hundreds of stories by nearly as many authors now color (some might say
litter) the canvas of Star Wars outside the films. And if you are like
me, you discovered fairly early on that it would take some effort to make sense
of the whole mess.
When I first met Nathan Butler, it was after I had bragged in a letter
column of X-Wing: Rogue Squadron that I had one of the most
comprehensive chronologies out there. He contacted me with a humbly worded
letter of interest, and I found out rather quickly that to boast on this
subject was something one had better not do lightly; and a shared file or two
later, I found that one of the true masters of this particular field of fandom
had already been established.
Nevertheless, I kept up my own attempts at a timeline that would be a
quick reference point, so that I could easily go to my bookshelf and see in
what order this ever-increasing spate of stories took place. It took me years
to get to the point at which I found myself actually completely satisfied with
the format, but I believe I have finally “arrived”. Now, thanks to the
generosity of Nathan, I can share this new format with the rest of you. Please
feel free to contact me with questions, comments, or suggestions for
improvements, and enjoy a new and modestly unique entry into the vast halls of timeline
fame!
