The survival of the Republic depends on two factors: wise governing by administrators and lawmakers, and the preservation of harmony and justice by the Jedi. It is a practice for Jedi to become guardians of new star systems, overseeing transitions and assisting with local difficulties.

02:17, evening (Core Worlds: Coruscant, Republic City): At the Draay Estate, Jedi Padawan Lucien Draay, under the supervision of his teacher, the failed Jedi Padawan Haazen, is engaging several Padawan seers in lightsaber combat. When he is defeating several of them, Lady Krynda Draay storms in, telling her son to stop. Turning to Haazen, she tells her assistant that although she agreed to allow her students exercises, she will not have her son hurting them. Haazen apologizes but points out that Lucien Draay is every bit the fighter his father was. He tells her that Jedi Master Vandar Tokare of the Dantooine Council has even offered to bring him into the Jedi Order on a probationary trail. But Krynda Draay remarks that he could have hurt one of her Padawans: they are the finest group of seers she has ever had before her: Feeorin Padawan Feln, Togruta female Padawan Raana Tey, female Miraluka Padawan Q’anilia and Khil Padawan Xamar are easily the best of their species. Haazen asks her if this is the group she has been looking for, and Krynda Draay replies that she has foreseen that these are the ones who will do what must be done. Haazen tells her that he will begin the preparations, but points out that for this to work, the seers will need practical help: the sort of service he renders to her at the Estate. Looking at her son, Lady Krynda Draay suddenly realizes that he can be usefull after all.

Plans are set in motion to form a secret Jedi covenant: the four Jedi seers will be among the greatest seers in the Jedi Order and, acting in unison, they will be able to see farther than eny Jedi ever has: they will form a sacred trust to stand watch and make certain that events like the recent Sith War never happen again. (note: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic # 9 states that this event occurs ‘twenty years ago’)
