The survival of the Republic depends on two factors: wise governing by administrators and lawmakers, and the preservation of harmony and justice by the Jedi. It is a practice for Jedi to become guardians of new star systems, overseeing transitions and assisting with local difficulties.

She is welcomed by caretaker-droid Ninebeedee who remarks that her visit will be a lovely surprise for her son, Lucien Draay, who had no idea she would be visiting today. Disappointed that her son does not seem to possess her seer-abilities, she replies that she is sorry to hear that. (note: I conjectured this to take place at this point in the timeline due to the fact that Lucien Draay is still in the creche)

01:28, day (Outer Rim Territories, Sumitra sector: Yavin IV): On the verdant jungle moon, the fallen Jedi Exar Kun is learning the meaning of power: by lifting the curse of Dark Lord of the Sith Naga Sadow, he has become the leader of the Massassi people, the degenerate descendants of the ancient Sith. The Massassi believe that Kun is the returned Dark Lord of the Sith foretold in their legends, but the fallen Jedi cares less for titles than he does for power itself. He ordered the Massassi to build temples according to the ancient Sith designs, temples which will focus great dark-side energy in one place.

As the Massassi carry out his grandiose plans, Exar Kun continues his research into the mysteries of Yavin IV. He enters an old Massassi temple, and senses something ancient, deep below. Entering the deep lairs beneath the temple, he enters a giant cave: inside is the ancient vessel that brought the original Sith renegades to the jungle moon. In a hidden chamber next to the Sith starship, Kun finds a trove of equipment: the apparatus of Sith alchemy. Among them are ancient Sith scrolls which explain the process by which Sith magicians altered the form of living creatures. 01:30, early day (Deep Core, Empress Teta system: in orbit of Empress Teta): The Corellia StarDrive Coruscant-class heavy courier Nebulon Ranger exits hyperspace in the Empress Teta system. Aboard are Jedi Knights Nomi Sunrider, Tott Doneeta and Cay Qel-Droma who have come to check up on Jedi Knight Ulic Qel-Droma who infiltrated the dark-side Krath movement about a month ago. They arrive in orbit of Empress Teta, directly over the city of Cinnagar. Sunrider remarks that since she cannot seem to reach Ulic Qel-droma with the Force, she wants to contact him in secret as she needs to find out what he has learned about the Krath.

Moments later, an escape pod jettisons and takes Nomi Sunrider to the surface below. Cay Qel-Droma and Tott Doneeta will hide the Nebulon Ranger in the shadow of the Tetan moon. 01:30, early day (Deep Core, Empress Teta system: Empress Teta, Cinnagar): Jedi Knight Nomi Sunrider has arrived in the city of Cinnagar: she plans to make contact with Jedi Knight Ulic Qel-Droma who infiltrated the dark-side Krath movement about a month ago. Reaching out to Qel-Droma with the Force, she senses nothing but the dark power that inhabits the great iron citadel of the Krath. Instinctively, she realizes that Ulic Qel-Droma is there, and she allows herself to be captured by revealing herself as a Jedi.

In the Krath War Room, Ulic Qel-Droma is proving that he is sincere about helping Krath leaders Satal Keto and Aleema: he remarks that the Krath will have to replace their primitive concussion weapons by modern weaponry. Aleema suggests that they give him command of their armed forces as Ulic Qel-Droma is more versed in the art of modern warfare than they are. Keto remarks that he has just received interesting news: another Jedi, a woman, has been taken captive. Moments later, Nomi Sunrider is brought before them. Ulic Qel-Droma feels both Satal Keto and Aleema reaching for his thoughts, trying to discern his feelings for the woman: he dares not to risk destroying everything he has gambled for. To mask his true feelings, Ulic Qel-Droma lets his anger come to the fore. Keto asks him if he, as their new military commander, would be willing to carry out her execution. Determined, and counting on her ability to save herself, Qel-Droma remarks that Nomi Sunrider will be executed at dawn tomorrow. 01:30, late day - evening (Deep Core, Empress Teta system: Empress Teta, Cinnagar): Jedi Knight Ulic Qel-Droma, who has successfully infiltrated into the dark-side Krath movement, is using a servant droid to secretly communicate with the captive Jedi Knight Nomi Sunrider who had come to check up on his progress. He enters a transmission into the droid in which he tells her to return to Ossus to inform the Jedi Masters to wait a while longer: he has learned much about the Krath but he needs to know more. But the droid, and its message, are intercepted by Krath leader Satal Keto. Enraged, he orders his aid Norgor to assassinate Qel-Droma immediately.

Deep in the subterranean Krath dungeons, Nomi Sunrider is trying to reach out with the Force to contact Jedi Knights Cay Qel-Droma and Tott Doneeta who are hiding in a ship behind the Tetan moon. She fails, and moments later, several guards appear who order her to follow them. Using Jedi battle meditation techniques, she manages to disable them and escape. Free of the dark-side Krath citadel, she once more tries to reach her Jedi companions.

Meanwhile, as the hour for her execution draws near, Ulic Qel-Droma prepares to visit the detention area to make sure Nomi Sunrider has escaped. But the assassin send by Satal Keto attacks with unbridled ferocity. Qel-droma ignites his lightsaber and kills the assassin. Krath leader Aleema recognizes the assassin as one of her cousin’s slaves. She remarks that Satal Keto is so stupid, telling Ulic Qel-Droma that it was his idea to attack the Jedi assembly on Deneba, over a month ago.

Alerted by Nomi Sunrider’s comlink message, Jedi Knights Cay Qel-Droma and Tott Doneeta bring the Corellia StarDrive Coruscant-class heavy courier Nebulon Ranger screaming in over Cinnagar. After landing, they follow Sunrider into a tunnel which leads directly into the Krath fortress. Making their way into the Krath lair, Ulic Qel-Droma suddenly appears on a balcony with Krath leader Satal Keto. He tells the Jedi that it was Keto who was responsible for the murder of Jedi Master Arca Jeth during the Krath attack on Deneba. Igniting his lightsaber, Ulic Qel-Droma turns on Satal Keto. As waves of anger wash over him, he suddenly feels a sensation that he has never felt before. Laughing, Satal Keto tells him that the Sith posion he injected into the Jedi the day he arrived seems to be working. With one slash, Ulic Qel-Droma kills Keto. Nomi Sunrider calls out to him, shouting that they have to leave immediately, but the process that has begun in Qel-Droma builds to catastrophic levels, unleashing waves of dark side energy in his body and against his friends. He shouts for them to get away. Confused, Cay Qel-Droma, Nomi Sunrider and Tott Doneeta manage to escape the Krath citadel.

Under fire from Krath ground troops, and pursued by enemy warships, the Nebulon Ranger jumps to the safety of hyperspace. Aboard, Cay Qel-Droma sets a course for Ossus. It has taken Nomi Sunrider a long time to give her heart to Ulic Qel-Droma, and now she is shattered by his betrayal and madness. She remarks that at the last moment, when Ulic Qel-Droma turned on them, she felt that he was lost to them.

Back in Cinnagar, Ulic Qel-droma asks Nomi Sunrider, Cay Qel-Droma and Tott Doneeta for foregiveness: he now knows what the specter of Freedon Nadd meant when he spoke to him on Onderon: he is on a path from which there is no return. Month 2

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith Book One # 6 (of 6) (Jedi Assault)                                                                                                              pages 2 - 7

Star Wars: The Essential Chronology (Tales of the Ancient Jedi Knights: Legacy of the Sith: The Coming Ruin)                                                                                  page 14

02:33, early day – late day (Outer Rim Territories, Auril sector: Ossus): Jedi Knights Cay Qel-Droma and Dace Diath are testing the experimental new Star Saber-class attack ships in the arid mountains near the Knossa spaceport. But something goes wrong, and Diath crashes his fighter against a rock-formation. Using the Jedi power of levitation, the Jedi Knight lowers himself to safety. Cay Qel-Droma takes Dace Diath back to the starport.

As Cay Qel-Droma and Dace Diath return to base, the other Jedi Knights are already welcoming Beast Lord Oron Kira, their ally from Onderon who will join the attack run on the city of Cinnagar on Empress Teta. Qel-Droma remarks that they probably should not use the Star Saber ships on the upcoming mission to the Empress Teta system, and use the Stinger-class starfighters instead. But Twi’lek Jedi Knight Tott Doneeta points out that they do not have enough Stingers to protect the beast transports. Dace Diath decides that he will fly a new Star Saber during the mission.

A short time later, the Jedi Knights stand before their Jedi Masters. Jedi Master Thon warns them that it might not be wise to return the fallen Jedi Knight Ulic Qel-Droma from the path he has chosen. But Cay Qel-Droma points out that his brother has been poisoned by Sith potions by the dark-side Krath leaders: they have to rescue him. Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas explains that he has seen his own apprentice, Exar Kun, take the dark path: although he tried to help him, every Jedi is a free Jedi and it is unwise to attempt to coerce anyone to hold to the light against their will. But Cay Qel-Droma replies that they cannot let the Krath destroy his brother. Thon tells the young Jedi Knights that they have their permission for the mission: but if Ulic Qel-Droma has chosen the dark side, he must remain free to experience the consequences of his choice. 03:09, early day – late evening (Deep Core, Empress Teta system: Empress Teta, Cinnagar): The fallen Jedi Knight Exar Kun and two of his Massassi have made their way to the iron citadel where the Krath commands its reign of terror over the Empress Teta system. Kun has come to Cinnagar to kill his potential rivals: Ulic Qel-Droma and Krath leader Aleema. Suddenly, the skies over Cinnagar resound with thunder. A Jedi task force from Ossus, four Jedi one-man starfighters and an Onderon warbeast transport, have emerged from hyperspace undetected. The Tetan defenders are caught off guard and the Jedi attack force sweeps into the forbidden inner city behind the citadel walls. Aboard a Stinger starfighter, Miraluka Jedi Knight Shoaneb Culu destroys one of the main defense towers. Aboard a new experimental Star Saber-class, Jedi Knight Dace Diath takes out a gun emplacement protecting the Krath’s palace.

The Jedi attack force reaches its objective, the Royal residence, and takes a stationary position long enough to drop three Onderonian warbeasts. The beast-rider rescue is Beast-lord Oron Kira’s idea as years ago, he used a similar plan on Onderon to capture his wife-to-be Princess Galia. Kira’s beast-riders steer their mounts into the Royal quarters, with Jedi commandos Nomi Sunrider, Cay Qel-Droma and Qrrrl Toq on board. When they reach Ulic Qel-Droma and Krath leader Aleema, Nomi Sunrider tells her former Jedi friend to get to the warbeasts. But using Sith magic, Aleema defends herself by conjuring up dark-side apparitions. Prepared for this moment with weeks of training under the Jedi Masters of Ossus, Sunrider uses her Jedi battle meditation power to counter the dreadful illusions. Beaten, Aleema retreats into the arms of Ulic Qel-Droma. Remarking that she loves him, Nomi Sunrider tells Qel-Droma that they should leave immediately.

Outside, in the courtyards of the Krath citadel, the Jedi attack force continues to circle the great beast-rider transport, holding position until the rescue is complete. But suddenly, Tetan Chaos fighters appear and begin to pound the Jedi ships.

In the Royal citadel, Jedi Knights Cay Qel-Droma and Nomi Sunrider try desperately to convince Ulic Qel-Droma to return to Ossus with them. But he explains that the Sith teachings are loose in the galaxy and people are turning to the dark side: he has to stop them. Ulic Qel-Droma tells his friends that he is not under the power of the dark side and orders them to get away from him as he has work to do. When Cay Qel-Droma tells his older brother that he is under the influence of Sith poison, Ulic Qel-Droma is angered and grabs for a Sith amulet. Qrrrl Toq and Cay Qel-Droma manage to hold Ulic Qel-Droma down, but Nomi Sunrider orders them to release him: she reminds them that Ulic Qel-Droma has to come by his own choice or not at all. Reluctantly, Cay Qel-Droma accepts Sunrider’s decision, but he plans to return to Cinnagar at the first opportunity. Ulic Qel-Droma remarks that if they leave Empress Teta quickly, none of them will be hurt. His last words to Nomi Sunrider are that she should trust him as he knows what he is doing.

Moments later, as Ulic Qel-Droma and Aleema give in to dark desire and kiss, another Jedi appears without warning: Exar Kun. Facing the sudden intrusion, Aleema is relieved to find her Sith magic is still intact and she attacks Kun. Qel-Droma points out that this must be the Sith pretender the spirit of Freedon Nadd warned her about. Using the dark side of the Force, Exar Kun disables Aleema and engages Ulic Qel-Droma in a lightsaber fight.

As Ulic Qel-Droma parries Exar Kun’s savage thrusts, the Sith amulets of both Jedi begin to glow. The light from the ancient talisman expands, and then joins into one brightness, enveloping the two warriors in mysterious energies. Suddenly, they are surrounded by images of several Dark Jedi, and former Dark Lord of the Sith Marka Ragnos, the Sith ruler whose death had triggered the civil war between Naga Sadow and Ludo Kressh a thousand years before, comes forward, telling them to cease their fight. The image from the past tells them that they are the chosen ones. Ragnos commands the two men to join forces, claiming that the alliance of Ulic Qel-Droma and Exar Kun can bring about the long-predicted return of Sith glory. Kun and Qel-Droma clasp hands and vow to do whatever is necessary to create such a future.
