The survival of the Republic depends on two factors:
wise governing by administrators and lawmakers, and the preservation of harmony
and justice by the Jedi. It is a practice for Jedi to become guardians of new
star systems, overseeing transitions and assisting with local difficulties.

07:27, sunrise (Outer Rim
Territories, Raioballo sector: Dantooine): Jedi apprentice Exar Kun has entered Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas
dwelling and accessed his holocron. The images he sees are those of Dark Lord
of the Sith Naga Sadow fleeing the Republic forces following his defeat during
the fall of the Sith Empire, over 1,000 years ago. From the Holocron, Kun
learns that the Dark Lords were powerful Jedi Knights who used the dark side of
the Force to master the Sith people: it is said that there mummified remains
are preserved forever inside monumental temples on a hidden world. When Jedi
Master Vodo-Siosk Baas enters, Exar Kun explains that he was curious to see
what his master had been recording in his Holocron. But Baas remarks that some
teachings of the Holocron are dangerous for those who are not yet ready. Exar
Kun replies that he has nearly completed his lightsaber training and that he
believes he is ready to gain some knowledge about the Sith. But Vodo-Siosk Baas
ends the conversation, telling his student that maybe in a few more years he
will be ready to study the things of the dark side. Then he sends Kun away to
collect the other students for a Jedi lightsaber test. (note: M-date conjectured by the

07:27, morning - day (Deep Core, Empress Teta system: orbital outpost): Lord Keto, ruler of the Empress Teta system, and his
sister are welcomed by Chairman Bearus, leader of a Carbonite Guild mining
outpost. Bearus is informed that another Royal ship is docking: Royal Tutor
Korus and six of his students are arriving for an unscheduled field trip.
During the tour of the facilties, the group of Royal
Tutor Korus and the group of Lord Keto and his sister meet. It becomes apparent
that Korus has fallen victim to the dark side secrets of Satal Keto and his
cousin Aleema. When Chairman Bearus tries to sound the alarm, he too falls
victim to Aleema’s dark side powers as she conjures up images of dark side
snakes. The Tetan security guards, believing they are under attack by the
serpents, fall into caratonic shock. Lord Keto orders his son to stop
immediately. But Aleema’s game of Sith illusions turns deadly as a carbonite
worker, terrified by a powerful illusion, stumbles back into a vat of molten
carbonite. Then, Lord Keto, hereditary ruler of the Empress Teta system, is
bound and carefully dipped in the molten carbonite. Satal Keto, leader of the
Krath secret society which dabbles in the lore of primitive Sith magic, plans
to display the carbonite block containing his father in his lair for all to
see. (note: M-date conjectured by the publication-date of the Dark Lords of the Sith: Topps Special Ashcan Edition.

08:17, day (Inner
Rim, Stenness sector: Onderon, city of Iziz): On a world once ruled by dark side power, young Jedi Knights are
enjoying a holiday. High over the great walled city of Iziz, where Dark Lord of
the Sith Freedon Nadd once governed with an iron hand, Ulic Qel-Droma and Nomi
Sunrider are learning to ride the great warbeasts of Onderon. From below, Jedi
Knights Dace Diath, Tott Doneeta and Qrrrl Toq are watching, together with Jedi
Master Arca Jeth.
When the beast-riding training session ends, Jedi
Master Arca Jeth calls the Jedi together: although he thought the Sith
teachings that were active in the system had been contained, a political coup
in the Empress Teta system seems to be connected to the recent Freedon Nadd
uprising. Tott Doneeta explains that they have learned that two young Tetans
were on Onderon during the height of the uprising. They are Satal Keto and his
cousin Aleema, heirs to the Empress Teta throne: apparently they made contact with
Onderonian leader King Ommin who initiated them to the secret of Sith magic. Jeth
tells the assembled Jedi that combined Jedi and Republic forces will attempt to
save the Tetan worlds that are still resisting the coup. The Jedi Master tells
Dace Diath, Qrrrl Toq, Oss Wilum and Shoaneb Culu to go to the Jedi stronghold
on Ossus to instruct the leaders on what they have encountered on Onderon
during the Freedon Nadd uprising. Nomi Sunrider will stay with him to receive another
lesson in Jedi battle meditation, after which she will fly directly to the
Empress Teta system with Ulic Qel-Droma to lead the Jedi effort.
Jedi Master Arca Jeth takes Nomi Sunrider apart as
Ulic Qel-Droma prepares to ready the Corellia
StarDrive Coruscant-class heavy courier Nebulon Ranger. But when his younger brother Cay Qel-Droma
remarks that they should check out all the Sith gear that King Ommin collected
before his death, to see if they can learn anything more about Freedon Nadd,
Ulic Qel-Droma agrees.
At one of the storerooms in the new Jedi outpost on
Onderon, service droids are packing Sith artifacts for shipment to the Jedi
Archives on Ossus. When Ulic Qel-Droma enters and explains that he wants to
look through the artifacts, service droid T-12 points out a strange amulet.
When Qel-Droma touches it, the spirit of Freedon Nadd appears. Despite the
removal of the Dark Lord’s remains to the Dxun moon, the specter warns Ulic
Qel-Droma not to interfere with the work of the dark side as the Sith are
destined to rise again. When Qel-Droma dismisses the threat, Nadd remarks that
Ulic Qel-Droma cannot avoid his destiny: he will be one of the great ones. (note: MD-date

a Jedi outpost. As they supervise the completion, Jedi Knights Cay Qel-Droma
and Tott Doneeta are expecting an important visitor: Exar Kun, a Jedi
archaeologist who is investigating Freedon Nadd and the Sith.
After Exar Kun arrives, Cay Qel-Droma and Tott Doneeta send him to Jedi
Master Arca Jeth. Jeth tells Kun that they cannot help him in his
investigations as he senses that the Jedi is no archaeologist. Sensing the dark
side in Exar Kun, Arca Jeth tells him that he is not welcome on Onderon.
Dismissing this, Kun replies that as a Jedi Knight, he is free to come and go
as he pleases. With that, he boards his ship, Starstorm One, and takes
off for the great walled city of Iziz.

09:23, day (Deep
Core, Empress Teta system: Koros Major) Under the influence of Sith teachings, rebellious young aristocrats
Satal Keto and his cousing Aleema have murdered their parents and staged a
political coup in the Empress Teta system. Calling themselves the Krath, and
using primitive dark-side Sith magic, they have instituted a reign of terror
among the seven Tetan worlds.
Now, the Krath are moving an ancient military command station into
position over Koros Major, the last planet still resisting the Krath coup. The
assault ships of the Krath are unique to the Tetan system: flying decks crammed
with shocktroopers wearing ceremonial armor of an earlier time. When the Tetan
warriors under the command of Satal Keto land on Koros Major, another battle
begins. Aleema, proficient in using the dark side of the Force to alter her
opponents’ perception of reality, prepares to use her abilities to confuse their
opponents.
At the same moment, the joint peace-keeping fleet of the Galactic
Republic and the Jedi emerges from hyperspace to protect Koros Major. On board
the Republic command ship Reliance, Captain Vanicus with Jedi mission
overseer Ulic Qel-Droma, prepare their mission strategy. As the joint fleet
takes up positions surrounding the Krath command station, a gigantic alien
lifeform, unseen for thousands of years, appears. These legendary creatures are
said to have once roamed between the stars, preying on galactic space travel.
Ulic Qel-Droma is shocked, remarking that the space gazers will destroy the
fleet. But Jedi Knight Nomi Sunrider, having grown strong in the power of
battle meditation, senses the dark energies behind the attack. She tells
Qel-Droma that the creatures are a mere illusion and that the real attack is
coming from the dark side of the Force.
In their youthfull arrogance, Satal Keto and Aleema assume that fear of
the giant illusions will drive off the Jedi. But realizing the attack of the
space grazers is a dark-side hallucination, the joint forced of the Republic
move in to storm the Krath command station. Keto orders the launch of numerous
fierce chaos fighters. Aboard the Reliance, Captain Vanicus prepares to
open fire. But Nomi Sunrider warns him that the ships are another illusion: she
is touching the mind of a woman who is creating the images of attack ships.
Concentrating, Sunrider manages to tear apart Aleema’s very thoughts, and the
illusions are fading. But not all the chaos fighters disappear: the joint Jedi
and Republic peacekeepers realize too late that they have been tricked as many
small fighters remain to attack the Reliance and the other Republic
vessels. Nazzar Jedi Knight Qrrrl Toq, flying with the Republic strike-team,
manages to down fifty of the clunky chaos fighters. But when one of the chaos
fighters plows into the bridge of the command ship, Jedi Knight Uic Qel-Droma
is seriously hurt. Suffering heavy losses, Captain Vanicus orders a complete
retreat of the fleet. (note: although Star Wars: The Comics Companion has this comicbook mini-series dated

09:23, day – late evening (Inner Rim, Stenness sector: Onderon, city of Iziz and Dxun
moon): Jedi Knight Exar Kun, on his own in the
great city of Iziz, wanders the teeming streets, seeking evidence of Onderon’s dark
side past. Keeping part of his attention focused in the Force, he finds himself
inexplicably drawn to a plaza where two street philosophers named Nebo and Rask
harangue a crowd. They tell the listeners that as long as King Ommin and Queen
Amanoa carried on their noble rule, the great power of Freedon Nadd was with
the city: but now, that power has been taken away from them by the Jedi Knights
whose meddling has destroyed the ancient Onderonian society. The crowd does not
agree and begins to throw rocks at the two Naddists. At that moment, Exar Kun
ignites his lightsaber and steps in. He walks over to the Naddists and asks
them to come with him as he believes they can help him in his quest.
After close interrogation of Nebo and Rask, Exar Kun strikes a deal with
the two Naddists: they will guide the Jedi Knight to the place where Jedi
Master Arca Jeth has hidden the remains of Dark Lord of the Sith Freedon Nadd. Shortly
after, the three are aboard Exar Kun’s ship, Starstorm One, and set a
course for the moon of Dxun. They land in the midst of the untamed lunar
wilderness, near the tomb build to last a million years. Exar Kun tells the two
Naddists to stay outside.
Inside the tomb, Exar Kun encounters and defeats one of the vicious Dxun
beasts. But then the Jedi Knight encounters a second wall of protection: the
tomb is constructed of Mandalorian iron. As Kun adjusts his lightsaber to its
highest intensity, he feels a sudden chill. He senses a power moving around
him, a power that wants to help him. As the tomb is breached, Exar Kun enters:
as he beholds the sarcophagi of King Ommin, Queen Amanoa, and Freedon Nadd, the
young Jedi feels profound misgivings. Kun seems to hear the voice of his Jedi
Master, Vodo-Siosk Baas, telling him to turn back. But his choice to
investigate the forbidden secrets of the dark side had been made months ago,
and he opens the tomb of Freedon Nadd. As the Jedi Knight looks upon the
remains of the Dark Lord of the Sith, the specter of Nadd appears. It warns Kun
that his fascination with dark-side things will get him in grave trouble. Then
the specter tells Kun that beneath the husk of his former self lies a secret:
he has to take the corpse out of the sarcophagus. Hesitating, Exar Kun obeys
the command of the dark-side spirit and takes out the skeleton of Freedon Nadd:
beneath it he finds two ancient scrolls, written by the hand of the Dark Lord
who was Nadd’s master. The specter of Freedon Nadd tells Exar Kun that the
scrolls will guide him to the last home of the Sith: there they will meet again
to begin the awakening.
When Exar Kun exits the tomb with the scrolls, he walks into a trap:
Naddists Nebo and Rask have drawn their blasters and demand that he hand over
the scrolls. Using the Force, Exar Kun kills them in an instant. Kun is greatly
disturbed by the ease with which Freedon Nadd’s dark-side power touched him,
and the ease with which he accepted it. There is a sense of relief as he soars
away from the Dxun moon. He also feels a growing excitement: the Sith scrolls
are safely in his possession, and he will study them intensely.
Once in hyperspace, Exar Kun uses an electronic translator to examine
the ancient scrolls. (note: although Star Wars: The Comics Companion has this comicbook

with the malevolent Krath in the Empress Teta system, Jedi Knights from all
over the galaxy converge on Deneba to deal with this new threat to peace and
justice. The Jedi, gathered on Mount Meru, are determined to bring the Krath to
justice. The recovering Jedi Knight Ulic Qel-Droma tells Jedi Master Arca Jeth
that despite all the appeals of the Galactic Senate, the brutal atrocities
continue in the Empress Teta system. Jedi Knight Shoaneb Culu remarks that the
Jedi prophecies predict a great conflict with the dark side. Twi’lek Jedi
Knight Tott Doneeta remarks that it is not supposed to begin for another
thousand years, but Oss Wilum points out that since the prophecies are
notoriously vague, it could happen at any time.
Jedi Master Odan-Urr, who has presided over the Jedi
assemblies for six centuries, waits for the great assemblage to come to order.
He then singles out Jedi Knights Ulic Qel-Droma and Nomi Sunrider. Qel-Droma,
the Jedi Watchman of the Empress Teta system, addresses the thousands of Jedi
Knights. He tells them that a war with the Krath armies might last for years
during which many Jedi will die. Qel-Droma explains that the Krath conspiracy

the spirits of Jedi Masters who opposed the ancient Sith and lost. It takes
little effort for Freedon Nadd to trigger the release of cataclysmic energy in

is mortally wounded: his only hope of survival is to turn to the dark side of
the Force. When Kun realizes that his former Jedi Master, Vodo-Siosk Baas,
cannot help him, he makes an empty promise just to save his life, but the vow
sends him sliding father down the slippery slope. He utters the fateful words
which surrender him to the dark side, unleashing a flood of power that blasts
away the rubble, knits his broken bones, and leaves him lying naked on the dry

10:17, late day (Deneba, Mount Meru): Following a
disastrous confrontation with the malevolent Krath in the Empress Teta system,
ten thousand premier Jedi Knights from all over the galaxy come together on
Deneba to deal with this new threat to peace and justice. The Jedi, gathered on
Mount Meru, are determined to bring the Krath to justice. The Jedi Watchman of
the Empress Teta system, Ulic Qel-Droma, explains that the Krath conspiracy
must be torn out by its roots before it can spread out to other systems. He
makes a dangerous proposal: he will infiltrate the Krath and learn the secrets
of their dark-side power. Qel-Droma’s own Jedi Master, Arca Jeth, is one to
protest his plan. But as Jeth addresses the Jedi assembly, he stops in mid-speech
as a scream in the Force reaches the Jedi at Deneba.
At Meru Starport, Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas, who has just landed to
attend the assembly, also hears the scream. His Cathar apprentice Sylvar remarks
that she knows it to be the voice of Baas’ former apprentice, Exar Kun.
Vodo-Siosk Baas replies that the sound they hear is the first echo of a storm
that will consume the galaxy.
At the same time, in orbit around Deneba, a Tetan
corsair releases a barrage of automated pods which strike the world’s surface,
unleashing hordes of Krath droids that attack the Jedi. Simultaneously, amidst
the assemblage, modified servant droids unveil weapons and turn on their
masters, killing many brave Jedi before they can be destroyed. Among the fallen
is the great Jedi Master Arca Jeth himself. As Ulic Qel-Droma mourns his
teacher, Nomi Sunrider warns him that it is foolish to think he can eradicate
the dark side by learning its ways. But Qel-Droma vows to succeed where others
have failed. He remarks that he owes this to Jedi Master Arca Jeth. (note: although Star Wars: The Comics Companion has this comicbook mini-series dated
