Year 3,971 before the Great ReSynchronization

4,009 Standard Years before the establishment of the New Republic

(4,005 Standard Years before the Battle of Yavin)

The survival of the Republic depends on two factors: wise governing by administrators and lawmakers, and the preservation of harmony and justice by the Jedi. It is a practice for Jedi to become guardians of new star systems, overseeing transitions and assisting with local difficulties.

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Companion (Chapter Two: The Jedi: Qrrl Toq)                                                                                                                                        page 29

01:04, day (Mid Rim: Nazzri): The Nazzar male Qrrl Toq studies the 14 vens of the Great Structure of the Ulizra. He begins to study the 12th ven of the state-enforced religion. Without fail he impresses his teachers at every level, and whispers throughout the palace and the praefectory say that young Toq might become the first king-praefect since the institution of the theocracy. Qrrl Toq does not attempt to hide his pleasure at such a possibility and forces everyone, save his father, to address him as Crown prince Qrrl Toq. To him it seems only right that a person of his station be called by his full title by those of lesser status, which in his case includes the entire population of Nazzri. (note: YMD-date conjectured by Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Companion which states that Qrrl Toq studies each ven ‘for a period of exactly one Nazzri year’ which I conjectured to be as long as a Standard year)

06:23, late morning (Colonies, space): While making a cargo run from the diamond mines of Arkania to the world of Alderaan, Vultan small-time trader Oss Wilum’s ship suffers an engine ion leak, forcing him to drop out of hyperspace in the middle of nowhere. After making temporary repairs, he scans the surrounding space for a hyperspace jump beacon: the nearest beacon is two days away at sublight speed, and Oss Wilum sets his ship on autopilot and begins the journey. (note: Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Companion states that this occurs six standard years before the events in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi)

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Companion (Chapter Two: The Jedi: Oss Wilum)                                                                                                                          pages 27 & 28

06:25, late day (Colonies, space): While making a cargo run from the diamond mines of Arkania to the world of Alderaan, Vultan small-time trader Oss Wilum’s ship suffered an engine ion leak, forcing him to drop out of hyperspace in the middle of nowhere. After making temporary repairs, he began the journey to the nearest hyperspace jump beacon which was two days away at sublight speed.

Now, a day and a half later, just a few hours short of his destination, Oss Wilum encounters a stranded vessel drifting slowly spinward. The ship’s communications system appear to be non-operational. Recognizing the vessel as a Republic courier vessel, Wilum scans it and detects signs of life aboard. Oss Wilum maneuvers his ship as close to the courier vessel as possible and then latches onto it with a tractor beam he had recently installed. He accelerates at an extremely slow rate so as not to lose his tow, eventually reaching half of his ship’s top speed after almost a standard hour. Upon reaching the hyperspace jump beacon, the small-time trader sends a subspace communication addressed to any Republic vessel in the area, giving his current location, the courier’s transponder codes, and the apparent state of the damaged vessel and its occupants. Though he is already a day late on his own delivery, Wilum does not want to leave the courier ship, for he fears that pirates might show up.

Another vessel drops out of hyperspace near the beacon just hours later. The Republic prowler ship Starspin immediately contacts Oss Wilum and commands him to leave the area. After verifying the Starspin’s transponder code format as Republic registry standard, Wilum follows the order, leaping into hyperspace on a course for Alderaan. (note: Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Companion states that this occurs six standard years before the events in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, and ‘a day and a half’ after beginning his subspace journey)

Month 7

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Companion (Chapter Two: The Jedi: Oss Wilum)                                                                                                                                     page 28

07:02, morning: Vultan small-time trader Oss Wilum reads in the newsgrids that an important communiqùe from a Republic Fleet expedition into unexplored space had just recently been delivered to Republic City. According to the report, the comuniqùe would have arrived earlier, but the courier ship carrying it suffered debilitating damage when several of its instruments had malfunctioned and sent it off course into the highly ionized remnants of a supernova. The ship had limped along for days before the rest of its systems failed and it sat stranded in deep space for days. According to the report, the Republic prowler Starspin had located the vessel after receiving a distress call, hours before its systems had completely shut down and lost all of its data.

Oss Wilum marvels at the news story in disbelief, recognizing the events from more than two weeks earlier. Somehow he had affected events that he had always thought were beyond him, activities better left to diplomats and war ministers who, he reasoned, had the right to alter the progress of the galaxy. But now he realizes that every action, every seemingly insignificant effort influences the future. With this realization, however, comes the sudden realization that he had neglected his duties as a member of the galactic continuum: he had squandered his life thus far on what he could now think of only as trivialities. It had never occured to him to look deeper, to examine his life, to seek ways in which he could better the galaxy. But now Oss Wilum sees the truth, and he realizes that the time for reevaluation has come: he will not allow himself to ignore his duties any longer. (note: Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Companion states that this occurs six standard years before the events in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, and ‘more than two weeks’ after encountering the stranded Republic courier vessel)

Month 9

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Companion (Chapter Four: Sith Reborn: Warb Null)                                                                                                                    pages 74 & 75

09:27, late morning: More than a decade ago, Shas Dovos, then a dedicated student of metallurgy, discovered a Sith tome inside an ancient dark side holdfast hidden in the wilds of his native planet. The book at once fascinated and reviled him and he decided to steal the book and take it with him to study it. After translating the book, Dovos is now about to fulfill what he has come to see as his destiny. Entering an immense underground chamber, Dovos goes to work. (note: YMD-date conjectured from Warb Null’s bio in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Companion)

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Companion (Chapter Four: Sith Reborn: Warb Null)                                                                                                                      pages 74 - 76

09:31, late morning: More than a decade ago, Shas Dovos, then a dedicated student of metallurgy, discovered a Sith tome inside an ancient dark side holdfast hidden in the wilds of his native planet. The book at once fascinated and reviled him and he decided to steal the book and take it with him to study it. After translating the book, Dovos is now about to fulfill what he has come to see as his destiny. Four days ago, he entered an immense underground chamber.

Steam rises from the fiery forge set in the center of the chamber. The mixed scent of sulfur and sweat permeats the air, and flares of superheated gases randomly strike out from the Sith-spawned flames that keep the apparatus alive. Shas Dovos’ hammer strikes the quickly cooling steel. The breastplate, like all of the individual pieces that make up the suit of armor, require the perfect blend of craftmanship and Sith magic. Finally, the armor is complete. Suddenly, a voice comes from the darkness, telling Dovos to wear the armor. Spinning around, Shas Dovos sees an ember hovering above the floor. The translucent form explains that it had helped the student to translate the book which made it possible for him to create the armor. The image explains that it is the protector of the Sith tome, its guardian against the ravages of time. The guardian tells Shas Dovos that he will teach him as he will be crucial in restoring the glory of the Sith. Pointing toward the suit of armor which sits in a heap at the base of the forge, the specter tells Dovos that the armor will be his new skin. At first Shas Dovos is confused, but the realization comes all too quickly as the image explains that this new being that the merging of man and metal will create most definitely deserves a new name: Warb Null. Dovos throws up his hands in defense and screams in horror as the specter swoops toward him. (note: YMD-date conjectured from Warb Null’s bio in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Companion which states that this occured ‘four days’ after)
