______________________________________________________________________________

It is a time of rugged frontiers: pioneers establish homes on harsh new colony worlds; alien races encounter Humans for the first time. Small-scale battles are fought and won as the galactic government continues to unify scattered systems. Convoluted paths through the incomprehensible wilderness of hyperspace are still being mapped, which make long-distance travel often treacherous and uncertain.

Jedi Master Ooroo has sent his apprentice to help Empress Teta in achieving peace. Teta explains that she sees no alternative but another fill-fledged military assault on the Kirrek rebels. But Odan-Urr tells her that he believes he may have the answer: Jedi battle meditation. Desperate, she realizes that they have no way to pay for the repairs to their vessel as they have already sold their dwelling to pay for previous repairs.

She walks into a parade and sees Empress Teta, ruler of the newly-consolidated seven worlds of the Koros system, making a show of meeting with the people and displaying the support given to her by the Jedi Knights. From atop a reuplsor-driven cart, the Empress tells the people that the Koros Unification Wars battles are nearly over and peace is upon them. 08:25, day (Deep Core, Koros system: Koros Major, Cinnagar): Hyperspace explorer Gav Daragon arrives at Aarrba’s Repair and Salvage to check on the repairs to his and his sister’s ship Starbreaker 12. Aarrba the Hutt tells him that they can have the ship back as soon as the repairs are fully paid for. Gav Daragon replies that Shodon Ko of the Brotherhood of Navigators informed him yesterday that a Cha’a merchant lord is using their new route into the Goluud Corridor, so they will have a substantial bonus coming any time now.

When Gav Daragon leaves Aarrba’s Repair and Salvage, he is cornered by two of Cha’a merchant lord Ssk Kahorr’s henchmen. They warn him that Kahorr does not like being cheated: the new route into the Goluud Corridor led Kahorr astray. Gorrm explains that their names are Gav and Jori Daragon, remarking that they are completely unable to buy back their lives. Gav Daragon tells his sister that he will petition the navigators´ guild tomorrow to see about their forthcoming bonus, when they are suddenly attacked by two assassins. They have been sent by Ssk Kahorr, a Cha´a merchant lord who lost a lot of credits while using the Daragon hyperspace route into the Goluud Corridor. But they are saved by the Draethos Jedi Knight Odan-Urr and Jedi Knight Memit Nadill, Empress Teta most trusted advisor. With one of the assassins killed, and the other one on the run, Nadill advises Jori and Gav Daragon to leave as he senses that they are not safe on Koros Major.

Gav Daragon leads his sister to Aarrba´s Repair and Salvage, explaining that they will have to take back Starbreaker 12 and leave Koros Major to make one more hyperspace run, farther than ever before. If they succeed, they will be free. Having commandeered their ship back, the two take off, dodging Cinnagar security. Pushing random numbers into their navicomputer, they vanish into the unknown. 09:03, day (Outer Rim Territories, Horuset system: Korriban): The Dark Lords of the Sith have come to bury one of their dead, Marka Ragnos,  in the Valley of the Dark Lords, a sheltered canyon of tombs and riches, guarded by vicious creatures. The powerful Sith Lord Ludo Kressh leads the funeral, following the old ways carefully, closely observing the rituals.

At the gravesite, the two strongest Sith opponents confront each other: Naga Sadow, eager to expand Sith powers, and his rival Ludo Kressh, content with the existing borders and loath to risk a folly that can lead the Sith Empire into ruin. The two Sith Lords engage in a bloody duel which is interrupted by the specter of Marka Ragnos who warns them that after the current Golden Age of the Sith, the fate of the Sith Empire hands in the balance: the Sith are to choose their course wisely or else all is lost.

09:03, late day (Outer Rim Territories, Horuset system, Korriban): The Starbreaker 12, piloted by Gav and Jori Daragon, is approaching the world of Korriban. With nothing but creditors waiting for them, the brother and sister hyperspace explorers embarked on a random hyperspace hop days ago, intending to map out a run farther than any that had been done before. They succeed in skipping from the Koros system in the Deep Core all the way to Sith space in the Outer Rim Territories. They land in the Valley of the Dark Lords where the two strongest Sith Lords, Naga Sadow and Ludo Kressh, are vying for the vacuum of power now that Dark Lord of the Sith Marka Ragnos has died.

When Starbreaker 12 lands, Gav and Jori Daragon exit and greet the Sith Lords in the name of the Republic. But they are immediately seized as a conservative Kressh sees them as precursors to a Republic invasion, the possible danger to the Sith Empire the spectral image of Marka Ragnos warned them about just moments before. Sadow, however, views the unsuspecting Republic as a vast new field to conquer. The prisoners will be brought to the world of Ziost for interrogation.
