Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith # 3: Paragon
US eBook (fiction) : written by John
Jackson Miller
eBook,
Del Rey, free
title
revealed in the Star Wars Novels Timeline in the Star Wars: Millennium Falcon
paperback reprint (November 24, 2009)
from starwars.com (January 21, 2010):
Del Rey continues their series of free e-novellas, Lost Tribe of the Sith, written
by John Jackson Miller. The e-books chronicle the untold story of the forgotten
Sith castaways that figure prominently in the Fate of the Jedi novel series.
The third book, Paragon, will be available for free download on February 10th.
The ruthless cunning of the Sith Order has served the shipwrecked crew
of the Omen well on the alien planet Kesh. Subjugating the superstitious
Keshiri race by posing as its fabled overlords has ensured the Sith's survival
-- while they struggle in secret to return to the stars. But after fifteen
years on their adopted world, some among the lost tribe have grown restless and
fearful that assimilation will consume their Sith heritage. Now, as rival
factions begin to appear, a shocking disaster throws into doubt the Sith's
future on Kesh.
In the distant city of Tetsubal, the entire native populace is suddenly
wiped out by a grisly plague of unknown origin. With terrifying speed, more
cities succumb to the mysterious contagion. Only the Sith remain unharmed -- so
far. And as Sith commander Yaru Korsin grapples with the looming loss of the
paradise he rules and the race his people have come to depend upon, he must
confront the dark possibility that the catastrophe may not be cruel fate but
insidious sabotage.

Act 3: Uncertain Surrender
Despite the efforts of the Jedi, a rash of recent violence threatens to
overturn the Treaty of Coruscant. After the destruction of the Envoy diplomatic
ship, the killing of Jedi Grand Master Zym, and the bombing of the Senate
Tower, many Republic leaders are calling for a return to war with the Empire.
At the same time, Republic military officials in the Outer Rim continue to
ignore the treaty and resist withdrawal orders from the Senate. On Korriban,
the prospects for peace are in similar jeopardy. The attempted assassination of
Lord Baras and the bombing of an Imperial transport have made Sith Leaders
suspicious of one another’s true motives. Fortunately, there is still hope.
Republic leaders have identified the infamous Bounty Hunter Braden as the chief
suspect in the recent attacks, and the Senate has dispatched Jedi Master Orgus
Din to track the Bounty Hunter down…

from
John Jackson Miller’s blog (october 13, 2009): Greetings again from the Diamond Retailer
Summit, where I'm appearing for Dark Horse promoting Mass Effect -- and where we finally
made it public that, yes, the long run of Knights of the Old Republic is et to end with # 50, the last issue
of "Demon."
We've been working toward the series' climax for some
time, getting pieces into place for the big finale -- where we really have
pulled out all the stops. Every question posed in the series (at least to my way
of thinking) is addressed. I turned in the last script recently and was very
pleased with it -- it wraps things up for this incarnation pretty close to how
I'd always imagined it. Dark Horse has given us marvelous support and creative
freedom from Day 1 on this series -- and we did everything to make sure things
went out with a bang!
For fans of the KOTOR series for its long run, I thank
you -- and I can say I'm pretty sure you'll really like where things wrap up
for your favorite characters. This has been only one chapter in the lives of
these characters; in Star Wars, you never know what the future holds.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Gambit Book I: Stealth (Book 4 in the series)
US book (fiction): written by Karen Miller
trade
paperback (432 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-50902-4, SRP: $ 15.00
from starwars.com (August 10, 2009):
Coming this February is the first installment of a two-book Obi-Wan Kenobi and
Anakin Skywalker adventure, set against the backdrop of the Clone Wars! Written
by Karen Miller, here's a first look at its cover art by Craig Howell and a
synopsis of this trade paperback release from Del Rey Books.
Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker are on a secret mission to one of
the many worlds caught in the middle of the struggle between the Republic and
the Separatists. A pastoral planet, Lanteeb wants only to be left alone to
survive -- but it is the source of what could be one of the most devastatingly
destructive weapons ever. If this potential weapon were to fall into the hands
of the Separatists, uncounted worlds would fall. But should the Republic
succeed in destroying it first, one world that needs it to survive will be
annihilated. A frightening dilemma that Obi-Wan and Anakin will have to
untangle, if they can get in and out of the occupied planet alive...
from Karen
Miller’s LiveJournal (May 26, 2009): Done, done, done. Where I am it's 1.35 am. I've been
writing since 8 am yesterday and have finished the major rewrite of Star Wars
Clone Wars #4 and sent it off to those who must have it.
The first draft clocked in at 86k. This draft is 106k. It
will go a bit longer once I've sorted the very last chapter on the very last
rewrite, because it's a bit light on still but seriously? I broke my brain.
Again.
How do I feel about it? Actually, not bad. I think there
might be some good stuff here. Of course, it's only half the story. This is a 2
parter. And yes -- there is a cliffhanger. When is there not a cliffhanger when
I write a multivolume story?
And yes there is trauma and drama and angst and some
humour. And lots and lots and lots of Anakin and Obi-Wan. A little bit of Bail.
A little bit of Padme. A little bit of Ahsoka. Actually, quite a nice dollop of
Ahsoka. A great in-canon villain who isn't Palpatine. And there are a couple of
new characters, both my inventions. And I like them very much. One of them
might well cause a bit of a stir. But never mind -- I live to cause trouble.
*g*
I love this universe. I love these characters. I'm so
lucky.

Star Wars: Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor (paperback
reprint)
US book (fiction):
written by Matthew Stover
paperback (400 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-47745-6, SRP: $ 7.99
from amazon.com: Emperor
Palpatine and Darth Vader are dead. The Empire has been toppled by the triumphant
Rebel Alliance, and the New Republic is ascendant. But the struggle against the
dark side and the Sith Order is not over. Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han
Solo, Lando Calrissian, and their faithful comrades have had little time to
savor victory before being called on to defend the newly liberated galaxy.
Powerful
remnants of the vanquished Empire, hungry for retaliation, are still at large,
committing acts of piracy, terrorism, and wholesale slaughter against the
worlds of the fledgling New Republic. The most deadly of these, a ruthless
legion of black-armored Stormtroopers, do the brutal bidding of the newly risen
warlord Shadowspawn. Striking from a strategically advantageous base on the
planet Mindor, they are waging a campaign of plunder and destruction,
demolishing order and security across the galaxy–and breeding fears of an
Imperial resurgence. Another reign of darkness beneath the boot-heel of Sith
despotism is something General Luke Skywalker cannot, and will not, risk.
Mobilizing
the ace fighters of Rogue Squadron–along with the trusty Chewbacca,
See-Threepio, and Artoo-Detoo–Luke, Han, and Leia set out to take the battle to
the enemy and neutralize the threat before it’s too late. But their imminent
attack on Mindor will be playing directly into the hands of their cunning new
adversary. Lord Shadowspawn is no freshly anointed Sith Chieftain but in fact a
vicious former Imperial Intelligence officer–and Prophet of the Dark Side. The
Emperor’s death has paved the way for Shadowspawn’s return from exile in the
Outer Rim, and mastery of ancient Sith knowledge and modern technology has
given him the capability to mount the ultimate power play for galaxy wide
dominion. Dark prophecy has foretold that only one obstacle stands in his way,
and he is ready–even eager–for the confrontation.
All the
classic heroes, all the explosive action and adventure, all the unparalleled
excitement of Star Wars come breathlessly alive as the adventures of Luke
Skywalker continue.

Packs have really fallen off and we have not been able to get to any new
releases past the first wave. At this point, we are working to get the last
five Fall packs out (including Tholme/T'raa Saa, the Clones from Routine Valor,
and the Black Hole Trooper). They will be out in about March.
from galactichunter.com
(May 22, 2009): Question by Galactic Hunter: Whatever happened to the Tales of the Jedi comic pack
featuring Ulic Qel-Droma and Exar Kun? You mentioned a long time back that it
was coming, but we haven't seen any pics or updates on this pack, all while
other new comic packs are either being revealed or rumored. Was it canceled or
delayed? (If it's still heading down the space-lane, might we ask for a photo
of it?)
aswer by HASBRO: It's still on the way, in the second wave for Fall. It's trailing a
bit at this point so it might not be on shelf until October - we'll have a
firmer date for you at San Diego Comic Con. We don't have an image of this set
ready to show just yet - we will reveal it at San Diego Comic Con.

Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Backlash (Book 4 of 9)
US book (fiction):
written by Aaron Allston
hardcover (256 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-509080, SRP: $ 25.00
Sue Rostoni at the starwars.com
boards (January 15, 2010): BACKLASH is actually coming out on March 9th.
from starwars.com (October 23, 3009):
Repercussions from the dark side's fatal seduction of Jacen Solo and the
mysterious plague of madness afflicting young Jedi continue to wreak havoc
galaxy-wide. Having narrowly escaped the deranged Force worshippers known as
the Mind Walkers, and a deadly Sith hit squad, Luke and Ben Skywalker are in pursuit
of the now Masterless Sith apprentice Vestara Khai. It is a chase that leads to
the forbidding planet Dathomir, where an enclave of powerful dark-side
Force-wielders will give Vestara the edge she needs to escape -- and where the
Skywalkers will be forced into combat for their quarry and their lives.
Meanwhile, Han and Leia Solo are on their own desperate mission,
shuttling madness-stricken Jedi from Coruscant to safe haven in the Transitory
Mists -- and beyond the grasp of Galactic Alliance Chief of State Natasi Daala.
But the bold maneuver only intensifies Daala's fury, and she is determined to
shatter Jedi Order resistance once and for all.
Yet, no greater threat exists than that which still waits in the depths
of the distant Maw Cluster: A being of pure, ravenous dark-side energy named
Abeloth calls out across the stars to Jedi and Sith alike. For some, it may be
the ultimate source of answers crucial to their survival. For others, it could
be the ultimate weapon of conquest. But for all, it is a game-changing -- and
life-altering -- encounter of untold magnitude, and a tactical gambit with
unimaginable consequences.
from amazon UK (August 2009): Three major
storylines run through the "Fate of the Jedi" series. One is the
odyssey of Jedi Grand-Master-in-Exile Luke Skywalker and his son Ben, as they
travel from one world of non-Jedi Force-users to the next in search of clues as
to what might have turned Jacen Solo to embrace the evil ways of the Sith
Lords. The second is the attempts of Galactic Alliance Chief of State Natasi
Daala to break the power of the Jedi Order, while young Jedi Knights on a
variety of worlds are inexplicably going insane. And the third is the tale of a
previously unknown lost tribe of Sith as they rejoin the known galaxy determined
to kill Luke Skywalker, destroy all the Jedi, and reinstate the Sith as supreme
rulers. In "Backlash", Luke and Ben will visit the deadly world of
Dathomir, home to the Night Sisters, otherwise known as the Dathomiri Witches,
as an ancient evil, released from its prison, stretches its hungry tendrils
ever farther through the galaxy.

From local

received as the abusive Jake Heke in Once Were Warriors that brought him
international acclaim, and ultimately propelled him to Hollywood.
In this memoir,
Temuera talks about the roles he has played, the famous people he has acted

Butler Seder

$ 14.95
from amazon.com: Imagine:
the first Star Wars book that actually moves, bringing to life the most
memorable scenes from the epic: Obi-Wan battles Darth Maul The Millennium
Falcon zooms away from an exploding Death Star Luke rides a galloping Tauntaun,
Yoda twirls his green lightsaber, Boba Fett blasts up, up and away! And of
course the most memorable scene of all—red and blue lightsabers flashing, Luke
and Darth Vader fight the ultimate battle between good and evil.
It’s a
marriage made in a galaxy far, far away: phenomenal Scanimation meets Star
Wars, the enduring epic that’s sold $42 billion in ticket sales and earned the
title #1 Boys Action Toy License of all time. Created by Rufus Butler Seder,
Star Wars: A Scanimation Book presents 12 of the most memorable scenes, in a
landscape, i.e., movie format. It’s an homage from an artist obsessed with the
earliest forms of capturing visual motion to an artist obsessed with the most
advanced. But that’s not what young fans will care about—this is having pure

movie, right? How perfect, then, that Rufus Butler Seder chose "Star
Wars" as the subject of his next book, which brings to life ten of the
most iconic and memorable scenes from all six classic movies. Darth Vader's
final lightsaber duel with Obi Wan Kenobi, R2D2 and C3PO making their way across
the sands of Tatooine; Luke's targeted descent into the trenches of the Death
Star; Princess Leia giving R2D2 the stolen plans; General Grievous with his
four lightsabers spinning; Yoda and Emperor Palpatine locked in an epic Sith
Lightning duel; the Millennium Falcon zooming out of eating range of the giant
asteroid slug; Anakin and Padme's tender love scene at the entrance of the
Geonosian Battle Arena; Boba Fett gliding on his jetpack; and, Darth Maul's
thrilling double-bladed light saber battle against Qui Gon Jinn are all brought

US book (fiction):
written by Christie Golden
hardcover (256 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-50914-7, SRP: $ 27.00
from randomhouse.com: What began
as a quest for truth has become a struggle for survival for Luke Skywalker and
his son, Ben. They have used the secrets of the Mindwalkers to transcend their
own bodies and speak with the spirits of the fallen, risking their very lives
in the process. They have faced a team of Sith assassins and beaten the odds to
destroy them. And now the death squad’s sole survivor, Sith apprentice Vestara
Khai, has summoned an entire fleet of Sith frigates to engage the embattled
father and son. But the dark warriors come bearing a surprising proposition
that will bring Jedi and Sith together in an unprecedented alliance against an
evil more ancient and alien than they can imagine.
While the Skywalkers and their Sith allies set off on
their joint mission into the treacherous web of black holes that is the Maw,
Han and Leia Solo risk arrest and worse to aid the Jedi imprisoned back on
Coruscant. Tyrannical Chief of State Natasi Daala has issued orders that will
open a permanent schism between her government and the Jedi Order—a schism that
could turn all Jedi into renegades and wanted criminals.
But it is in the depths of the Maw that the future of
the galaxy will be decided. For there the Skywalkers and their Sith allies will
engage a true monster in battle, and Luke will come face-to-face with a
staggering truth.
summary from the Random
House Publishing Group Hardcover Summer 2010 catalog: A secret
revealed with a blast from the past...in the fifth novel of the Fate of the
Jedi series, a thrilling new story arc for fans of the Legacy of the Force
series, the Dark Lords of the Sith, and the most popular characters in Star
Wars, Luke, Han, and Leia!
In the middle novel of the bestselling nine-book Star Wars series Fate
of the Jedi, an uneasy—and unprecedented—coalition of Jedi and Sith enter the
dark and treacherous area of space known as the Maw to search out the strange
being that has been reaching out to Luke Skywalker during his journey to
retrace the travels of his late nephew, Jacen Solo. Forced to wait on the
planet Klatooine for reinforcements from Lando Calrissian, this already fragile
alliance is threatened by the presence of the Hutts, and while Leia, Han,
Jaina, and Jag walk a fine line between obeying the law of the Galactic
Alliance and supporting Luke, Jedi Ben Skywalker and Sith Apprentice Vestara
Khai may be the ones to lead the mission to triumph—or disaster.
from starwars.com: Among the titles
launching in 2009 are the first three in a new Star Wars multi-book,
multi-author story arc following directly in the footsteps of the Legacy of the
Force series. The nine-book, three-author series, Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi,
will break new ground by being the first multi-book Star Wars series to be
published all in hardcover. The series, which will be published over the space
of three years, will launch in April 2009 with Outcast, by Aaron Allston; the
other two authors planning and penning the nine novels will be Christie Golden
and Troy Denning.

Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Omen (Book 2 of 9) (paperback reprint)
US book (fiction):
written by Christie Golden
paperback reprint (304 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-50913-7, SRP: $ 7.99
amazon description: The
Jedi Order is in crisis. The late Jacen Solo’s shocking transformation into
murderous Sith Lord Darth Caedus has cast a damning pall over those who wield
the Force for good: Two Jedi Knights have succumbed to an inexplicable and
dangerous psychosis, criminal charges have driven Luke Skywalker into
self-imposed exile, and power-hungry Chief of State Natasi Daala is exploiting
anti-Jedi sentiment to undermine the Order’s influence within the Galactic
Alliance.
Forbidden
to intervene in Jedi affairs, Luke is on a desperate mission to uncover the truth
behind Jacen’s fall to the dark side–and to learn what’s turning peaceful Jedi
into raving lunatics. But finding answers will mean venturing into the
mind-bending space of the Kathol Rift and bargaining with an alien species as
likely to destroy outsiders as deal with them. Still, there is no other choice
and no time to lose, as the catastrophic events on Coruscant continue to
escalate. Stricken by the same violent dementia that infected her brother,
Valin, Jedi Knight Jysella Horn faces an equally grim fate after her capture by
Natasi Daala’s police. And when Han and Leia Solo narrowly foil another
deranged Jedi bent on deadly destruction, even acting Jedi Grand Master Kenth
Hamner appears willing to bow to Daala’s iron will–at the expense of the Jedi Order.
But an
even greater threat is looming. Millennia in the past, a Sith starship crashed
on an unknown low-tech planet, leaving the survivors stranded. Over the
generations, their numbers have grown, the ways of the dark side have been
nurtured, and the time is fast approaching when this lost tribe of Sith will
once more take to the stars to reclaim their legendary destiny as rulers of the
galaxy. Only one thing stands in their way, a name whispered to them through
the Force: Skywalker.

paperbacks -- they're 3/4" taller and a touch wider. Seems to be the trend

around Imperial blockades. Instead, their life was spent rambling through the
Outer Rim, flying fast, and taking quick jobs to get from place to place-along
with a few close calls along the way!

lighthearted adventures, created especially with young readers in mind.
from starwars.com
(January 7, 2010): Last November, we
gave you the head's up that the original rogues of the Star Wars saga were
coming back in a brand new series of adventures for younger readers. Now, you
can take a look at the cover to the first book in the Adventures in Hyperspace
series by Ryder Windham, titled Fire Ring Race.
Before they joined the Rebellion against the Empire, the pilot Han Solo
and his co-pilot Chewbacca made their living by transporting cargo across the
galaxy in the Millennium Falcon. But when Jabba the Hutt hires them to pick up
a cargo container at Fornax Station, Han and Chewie pick up something else...
trouble!
Ryder Windham on
starwars.com: I read through a few
Star Wars novels to locate a specific period of time, but basically, it's set
when Han and Chewie are somewhat based on Tatooine, and they're on relatively
good terms with Jabba the Hutt. They may not like Jabba much, but they like his
money.
If you've been waiting since the 1970s to read about Han and Chewie
visiting the Five Fire Rings of Fornax, this may be the series you've been
waiting for!

US book (fiction):
written by Troy Denning
paperback reprint (416 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-50919-6, SRP: $ 7.99
amazon description: Following a trail
of clues across the galaxy, Luke Skywalker continues his quest to find the
reasons behind Jacen Solo’s dark downfall and to win redemption for the Jedi
Order. Sojourning among the mysterious Aing-Tii monks has left Luke and his son
Ben with no real answers, only the suspicion that the revelations they seek lie
in the forbidden reaches of the distant Maw Cluster. There, hidden from the
galaxy in a labyrinth of black holes, dwell the Mind Walkers: those whose power
to transcend their bodies and be one with the Force is as seductive and
intoxicating as it is potentially fatal. But it may be Luke’s only path to the
truth.
Meanwhile, on Coruscant, the war
of wills between Galactic Alliance Chief of State Natasi Daala and the Jedi
Order is escalating. Outraged over the carbonite freezing of young Jedi Knights
Valin and Jysella Horn after their inexplicable mental breakdowns, the Jedi are
determined to defy Daala’s martial tactics, override Council Master Kenth
Hamner’s wavering leadership, and deal on their own terms with the epidemic of
madness preying on their ranks. As Han and Leia Solo, along with their daughter
Jaina, join the fight to protect more stricken Knights from arrest, Jedi
healers race to find a cure for the rapidly spreading affliction. But none of
them realize the blaster barrel is already swinging in their direction–and
Chief Daala is about to pull the trigger.
Nor do Luke and Ben, deep in the Maw Cluster and pushing their Force
abilities beyond known limits, realize how close they are–to the Sith strike
squad bent on exterminating the Skywalkers, to a nexus of dark-side energy
unprecedented in its power and its hunger, and to an explosive confrontation
between opposing wielders of the Force from which only one Master–good or

the description of book two, Clone Wars Gambit: Siege, also by Miller with

On the Outer Rim, the planet Lanteeb has no strategic value, no
political power, and one enormous problem: it has been invaded by an emboldened
Separatist Alliance. To find out why, Jedi knights Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan
Kenobi have snuck onto Lanteeb -- and now look oblivion in the eye...
Hiding their lightsabers beneath their dusty disguises, Anakin and
Obi-Wan draw on their Jedi skills to stay one step ahead of Lok Durd's droid
army on Lanteeb. The Jedi know that a captive scientist has given Durd the keys
to a terrifying bioweapon. Durd knows that the Jedi are on his planet. With
Yoda calling on the powers of the Jedi Council, with a new Separatist
technology jamming the Guardians' communications, and a traitor at the heart of
the Republic's government, the wheels of war are turning. But the Separatists
have blockaded Lanteeb. The finishing touches are being put on a weapon to
destroy whole worlds. And it will be up to the two Jedi Knights and their most
trusted comrades to liberate Lanteeb or forever suffer the consequences.

Generation Star Wars: A Celebration of the Wild World of
Star Wars Fandom
US book (non-fiction): written by Bonnie Burton,
Mary Franklin and Pete Vilmur
softcover
(256 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-51162-1, SRP: $ 22.00
summary from the Random
House Publishing Group Hardcover Summer 2010 catalog: Just in time
for the upcoming Star Wars Celebration, a gift book like no other—one devoted
entirely to the Star Wars fans.
A Star Wars book for Star Wars fans—honoring more than thirty years of
one of the best and largest fan bases in the galaxy. The book will document the
history of Star Wars fandom from the first tease of Star Wars at San Diego
Comic-Con in 1976 all the way to today. The reader won't need to be a core fan
to appreciate the book. So many readers have memories of seeing one of the Star
Wars movies, dressing as one of the characters for Halloween, or playing with
the toys. This book will be attractive to those people, as well as the core
Star Wars fan base.
Key Points:
- A complete retrospective of more than thirty years of Star Wars
fandom, this fully illustrated book will feature hundreds of fan photos and
content, including a massive spread of some fans' signatures!
- The release will be timed with the next Star Wars Celebration event
coming in the summer of 2010, making this the must-have book of the convention.
More than 35,000 fans descended on Los Angeles in 2006 for Celebration IV, and
organizers of the upcoming Celebration V expect many more in 2010.
- Lucasfilm will make sure to include the fans as much as possible in
the creation of the book. Reaching out to the Star Wars fan community for their
involvement will undoubtedly drive interest in the finished book.
- Written by three insiders at Lucasfilm, who all have direct access to
the fans—Pete Vilmur, Bonnie Burton, and Mary Franklin.
- The book is accessible to our core Star Wars fan base as well as more
casual readers.
- Chapters will be dedicated to the numerous Star Wars fan club
communities, such as the 501st Legion, Rebel Alliance, R2 Builders Club, and
the official Star Wars fan club. These clubs alone will generate a large amount
of interest in the book.
- Celebrity fans, Star Wars events, conventions, and fan communities and
clubs will all be addressed in this heavily illustrated book.
from Bonnie Burton’s
blog (Dece, mber 4, 2009): News about my next book has finally been made public!
I can't wait to promote it once we're done writing it. My co-workers and good
friends Mary Franklin and Pete Vilmur (who are Star Wars experts in their own
rights) are writing the book with me.
So far it's been fun interviewing fans about their
experiences, showing off all the different costuming groups, droid makers,
online bloggers, podcasters, celeb fans and more.
We're excited to put the book, and quite frankly a
book celebrating the passionate fans who make the Star Wars community special
and fun is LONG overdue. I hope you all like it when it comes out!
from starwars.com (December 3, 2009): In
the history of popular culture no community of fans has endured as Star Wars
fans have endured -- not simply surviving, but thriving for more than 30 years.
When the first Star Wars movie opened in theaters in 1977 it inspired a loyal
following that has grown far beyond a Sci-Fi flick fad. Star Wars fandom is a
worldwide phenomenon made up of generations of kindred spirits who share the
stories, comics, costumes, games, and even the experience of waiting in line
for the next event. They are celebrities and rock stars. They are politicians,
artists, teachers, scientists, parents, and writers. What is more, their
generous acts of charity, creativity, and community service, all in the name of
their shared passion, are legendary.
In the forthcoming Star Wars: Generations book, authors Bonnie Burton,
Mary Franklin, and Peter Vilmur, employees of Lucasfilm with unique access to
fandom and its history, reveal insights into a group of individuals you might
have thought you understood. Far more than fanboys and fangirls, Generation
Star Wars is a force to be reckoned with, and a force to enjoy. The book is
scheduled for release from Del Rey next summer.

The Making of
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back: The Definite Story
behind
the Film
US book (non-fiction): Del
Rey, by J.W. Rinzler, foreword by Ridley Scott
hardcover,
Del Rey (372 pages), ISBN 0-345-50961-7, SRP: $ 85.00
flap-copy from starwars.com (January 19, 2010): In this lavish thirtieth-anniversary tribute to the blockbuster film
StarWars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, New York Times bestselling author
J. W. Rinzler draws back the curtain to reveal the intense drama and
magnificent wizardry behind the hit movie—without doubt the fan favorite of the
Star Wars saga.
Following his The Making of Star Wars, the author has once again made
use of his unlimited access to the Lucasfilm Archives and its hidden treasures
of previously unpublished interviews, photos, artwork, and production mementos.
The result is a comprehensive behind-the-scenes, up-close-and-personal look at
the trials and triumphs, risks and close calls, inspiration, perspiration, and
imagination that went into every facet of this cinematic masterpiece. Here's
the inside scoop on:
- the evolution of the script, from story conference and treatment to
fifth draft, as conceived, written, and rewritten by George Lucas, famed
science-fiction author Leigh Brackett, and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan
- the development of new key characters, including roguish hero Lando
Calrissian, sinister bounty hunter Boba Fett, and iconic Jedi Master Yoda
- the challenges of shooting the epic ice planet battle in the frozen
reaches of Norway and of conjuring up convincing creatures and craft—from
tauntauns and snowspeeders to Imperial walkers
- the construction of a life-sized Millennium Falcon and the swamp
planet Dagobah inside a specially built soundstage in Elstree Studios
the technique behind master Muppeteer Frank Oz's breathing life into the
breakthrough character Yoda
- the creation of the new, improved Industrial Light & Magic visual
effects facility and the founding of the nowlegendary Skywalker Ranch
In addition, of course, are rare on-the-scene interviews with all the
major players: actors Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee
Williams, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and David Prowse; director Irvin
Kershner; producer Gary Kurtz; effects specialists Richard Edlund, DennisMuren,
Ken Ralston, and Phil Tippett; composer John Williams; and many others.
Punctuating the epic account is a bounty of drawings, storyboards, and
paintings by Ralph McQuarrie, Joe Johnston, and Ivor Beddoes, along with
classic and rare production photos. An added bonus is a Foreword by acclaimed
director Ridley Scott.
The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is a fittingly glorious
celebration of an undisputed space-fantasy moviemilestone. Search your
feelings, you know it to be true.
from starwars.com (August 30, 2009): While you may have caught a glimpse of this upcoming book in our
Comic-Con coverage a couple weeks ago, we've now got a clean cover image of The
Making of The Empire Strikes Back by Lucasfilm's J.W. Rinzler to share.
We're able to report that early passes of this book
are absolutely brimming with never-before-published photos, and the length
matches that of the deluxe Star Wars edition printed two years ago -- 372
pages. Foreword by Alien/Blade Runner/Gladiator director Ridley Scott.
The Making of the Empire Strikes Back will be
available in 2010 and is being published by Del Rey Books. Stay tuned to
starwars.com for further reports of this highly-anticipated book to be released
for Empire's 30th anniversary...
information from Star Wars Insider # 92, March/April
2007:“J.W. Rinzler (LucasBooks executive editor)
says tentative plans are afoot to reissue the making-of books for The Empire
Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, with Alan Arnold and John Philip Peecher’s
original manuscripts supplemented by a wealth of images.”
information from starwars.com,
April 23, 2007: Question: Is there other archival material, for example relating to the
two sequels, that has yet to come to light? Is this the last "Making
Of" book?
J.W. Rinzler: Well, the next two already
have published books out there. But there is a ton of never-seen-before visual
material that we could publish. A lot depends on how The Making of Star Wars
does in the marketplace. If it's a success, then I'll be able to leverage
deluxe versions, with many more photos and art, for Empire and Jedi -- perhaps
for their anniversaries.

Star Wars: Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil (paperback
reprint)
US book (fiction):
written by Drew Karpyshyn
paperback (256 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-51157-3, SRP: $ 7.99
from amazon.com: Twenty
years have passed since Darth Bane, reigning Dark Lord of the Sith, demolished
the ancient order devoted to the dark side and reinvented it as a circle of
two: one Master to wield the power and pass on the wisdom, and one apprentice
to learn, challenge, and ultimately usurp the Dark Lord in a duel to the death.
But Bane’s acolyte, Zannah, has yet to engage her Master in mortal combat and
prove herself a worthy successor. Determined that the Sith dream of galactic
domination will not die with him, Bane vows to learn the secret of a forgotten
Dark Lord that will assure the Sith’s immortality–and his own.
A
perfect opportunity arises when a Jedi emissary is assassinated on the troubled
mining planet Doan, giving Bane an excuse to dispatch his apprentice on a
fact-finding mission–while he himself sets out in secret to capture the ancient
holocron of Darth Andeddu and its precious knowledge. But Zannah is no fool.
She knows that her ruthless Master has begun to doubt her, and she senses that
he is hiding something crucial to her future. If she is going to claim the
power she craves, she must take action now.
While
Bane storms the remote stronghold of a fanatical Sith cult, Zannah prepares for
her Master’s downfall by choosing an apprentice of her own: a rogue Jedi
cunning and cold-blooded enough to embrace the Sith way and to stand beside her
when she at last wrests from Bane the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith.
But
Zannah is not the only one with the desire and power to destroy Darth Bane.
Princess Serra of the Doan royal family is haunted by memories of the monstrous
Sith soldier who murdered her father and tortured her when she was a child.
Bent on retribution, she hires a merciless assassin to find her tormentor–and
bring him back alive to taste her wrath.
Only a
Sith who has taken down her own Master can become Dark Lord of the Sith. So
when Bane suddenly vanishes, Zannah must find him–possibly even rescue
him–before she can kill him. And so she pursues her quarry from the grim depths
of a ravaged world on the brink of catastrophe to the barren reaches of a
desert outpost, where the future of the dark side’s most powerful disciples
will be decided, once and for all, by the final, fatal stroke of a lightsaber.

Family Guy Episode VI: We Have a Bad Feeling About This (Family Guy tv-episode)
US
television series
20th Century Fox
from familyguy.wikia: Peter retells the story of Return of the Jedi.
Originally titled 'The Great Muppet Caper'. The cast of characters has yet to
be determined, but the producers have implied that due to the declining number
of characters in Family Guy, characters from The Cleveland Show and American
Dad will be included.
from James
Hibberd’s Live Feed (March 4, 2009):
Family Guy will extend its full-episode Star Wars parodies to the third film in
the George Lucas series: Return of the Jedi. The show’s cast completed a table
read yesterday for a Jedi spoof script, which is tentatively titled Episode VI:
The Great Muppet Caper.
from the starwarsblog.com
(August 3, 2009): The original title of the
upcoming Return of the Jedi spoof that they are already working on was originally titled Episode
VI: The Great Muppet Caper, but they thought it might be too confusing for people who might be
trying to buy the actual Great
Muppet Caper. So the title is now We Have a Bad Feeling About This.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Massively Multiplayer
Online PC-game)
US
game (MMO): LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment
from shacknews.com
(September 4, 2009): Star Wars Galaxies maker Sony Online Entertainment may
be crafting another MMO set in the popular sci-fi universe, provided that Ten
Ton Hammer is to be believed.
Citing an "inside source," the site reports
that it "sounds like" the project is a casual MMO set during The
Clone Wars television show, and that the game will use the same technology as
SOE's recent free-to-play minigame-filled MMO FreeRealms.
The site goes on to speculate that should Sony create
a casual-oriented Star Wars MMO that shared the distinct look of the Clone Wars
series, it wouldn't necessarily "take on" BioWare's anticipated Star
Wars MMO, which is set in the "Old Republic" era.
