My Best Friend is a Wookiee: One Boy’s Journey to Find His
Place in the Galaxy
US book (non-fiction): written by Tony
Pacitti
paperback
(256 pages), Adams Media Corporation, ISBN 1-4405-0583-7, SRP: $ 19.95
from amazon.com: A long
time ago in a galaxy far, far away...a geek was born. So begins Tony Pacitti's
own dorkily moving Jedi journey. In this hilarious and heartfelt memoir,
Pacitti shows how "Star Wars" has served as a source of comfort,
guidance, and wisdom in his life. From that very first swell of John Williams'
score, he takes "Star Wars" as his moral compass, his mentor, even
his psychologist. For every real-life situation - from winning friends and
influencing people to finding his own Princess Leia - the epic film offers
Pacitti a blueprint for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And just
when it looks like the Empire will be safe from the Dark Side forever, George
Lucas produces his new trilogy of prequels. Bloody but unbowed, Pacitti puts
aside the tragic specter of Jar Jar Binks and recaptures his original Star Wars
wonder. With the sense of humor of Hans Solo, the will power of Luke Skywalker,
and the wisdom of a (much younger) Yoda, Pacitti uses the Force to follow his
bliss, overcome obstacles, and live a life worthy of a Jedi knight, endearing
"Star Wars" fans everywhere in the process!
about the author: Tony
Pacitti was only a few months old when his parents took him to a drive-in to
see Star Wars for the first time, reconfiguring his freshly written DNA and
creating a full-blooded Star Wars nut. His youth was spent pouring over all
things geeky and though his parents were devout Trekkies, he chose to focus
almost singularly on Star Wars. Currently he is the writer for the online
comics RoboPlanet and The Silencer at Pandemonium Comics. Tony lives in
Providence, Rhode Island.

The Sounds of Star Wars (with embedded audio
module)
US book (non-fiction): written by Jonathan
Rinzler, foreword by Ben Burtt
hardcover,
Chronicle Books (304 pages), ISBN 0-8118-7546-6, SRP: $ 60.00
from starwars.com (July 8, 2010): In
1977, when Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope hit theaters, moviegoers were blown
away by a cinematic experience unlike anything they had ever seen -- or heard
-- before. A young man named Ben Burtt was behind the revolutionary sound
design, which used "found sounds" along with electronic manipulation
to give the film an authentic and many-layered effect. Burtt went on to develop
the sound design for all of the Star Wars live-action films, creating a vault
of genre-defining effects that are as fascinating in their origins as they are
dazzling in their execution.
In The Sounds of Star Wars, an aurally astonishing and visually engaging
book, New York Times best-selling author J. W. Rinzler reveals the illuminating
history behind the sounds of the Star Wars universe. With behind-the-scene
stories, photographs and sound clips, fans will discover the origins of sounds
from their favorite scenes. An attached sound module with an exterior speaker
and headphone jack lets readers listen to more than 250 unique sound effects.
More than 300 photographs illustrate the Saga's many memorable scenes.
Find
out cool tidbits, such as:
- To create the unique sounds of the Millennium Falcon fly-bys, Burtt
went to the National Air Races and recorded WWII-era racing planes flying
overhead
- Burtt based the Jawa Language on Zulu, then accelerated and raised the
pitch of the actors' performances
- Darth Vader's distinctive breathing was created by Burtt recording his
own breathing in scuba gear
- Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith required that Burtt create
1,050 new sounds
The Sounds of Star Wars features amazing facts, stories and trivia that
will entertain fans of the entire Saga -- from the first films all the way
though to the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. The Sounds of Star
Wars is Star Wars as you've never heard it before.
from Sue Rostoni's
blog (May 17, 2010): Read the history and listen to the sounds that make
the Star Wars universe so believable, as recounted by their creator, legendary
sound designer Ben Burtt. The sound module has an exterior speaker and
headphone jack so you can listen to more than 250 unique sound effects. Lots of
pictures, too.
from JW Rinzler’s blog
(May 6, 2010): This is sound designer Ben Burtt's magnum opus. I
spent a couple of days interviewing Ben (and many more digging up old
interviews) and so the book relates in his words the stories behind many of his
incredible sounds-more than 250 in all. One of my favorites is Aunt Beru's
"food processor." Another is the story behind the rancor-but Ben is a
genuine raconteur and the book is filled from cover to cover with great anecdotes.
It was amazing: I'd play him a sound from decades before and Ben would
immediately recall the circumstances that led to its creation. The book is also
notable for its high-quality sound reproduction-you can even listen with
headphones thanks to the art and production team at Becker & Mayer.
from starwars.com (October 8, 2009):
It's like something you've never heard before. Chronicle Books will be
publishing a book celebrating the audio experience of the Star Wars saga.
Written by bestselling author J.W. Rinzler and packaged by becker&meyer!,
Star Wars: Sounds From a Galaxy Far, Far Away... is the behind-the-scenes story
on how award-winning sound designer Ben Burtt developed the rich mosaic of
sounds through all six movies. There is also a section dedicated to the sound
of the latest incarnation of Star Wars, The Clone Wars. The book also features
a state-of-the-art audio module that allows readers to hear the actual sounds
while learning of their origins. The book's lavish design includes clear
markers that direct readers in using the module.
Star Wars: Sounds From a Galaxy Far, Far Away... is slated for release
the fall of 2010. It will have over 200 pages, feature more than 300 color
photos, and has a foreword by Ben Burtt.
from Becker & Mayer: The Sounds of Star Wars illuminates the audio universe of Star Wars by
exploring the vision for an “organic” sound that George Lucas and sound
designer Ben Burtt brought to the movies’ sound effects, as well as how these
distinctive sound effects were achieved. The book features a state-of-the-art
audio module that will easily allow readers to hear the sounds while learning
the stories behind those sounds. Lavishly illustrated pages will include clear
markers directing readers to listen to specific tracks as they view and read
about the scenes.
8.75" x 11" inches, 304 pages, smythe sewn, case bound. More than
300 color photographs and embedded audio module featuring more than 200 sounds.

Star Wars: Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil (paperback
reprint)
US book (fiction):
written by Drew Karpyshyn
paperback (256 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-51157-3, SRP: $ 7.99
from amazon.com: Twenty
years have passed since Darth Bane, reigning Dark Lord of the Sith, demolished
the ancient order devoted to the dark side and reinvented it as a circle of
two: one Master to wield the power and pass on the wisdom, and one apprentice
to learn, challenge, and ultimately usurp the Dark Lord in a duel to the death.
But Bane’s acolyte, Zannah, has yet to engage her Master in mortal combat and
prove herself a worthy successor. Determined that the Sith dream of galactic
domination will not die with him, Bane vows to learn the secret of a forgotten
Dark Lord that will assure the Sith’s immortality–and his own.
A
perfect opportunity arises when a Jedi emissary is assassinated on the troubled
mining planet Doan, giving Bane an excuse to dispatch his apprentice on a
fact-finding mission–while he himself sets out in secret to capture the ancient
holocron of Darth Andeddu and its precious knowledge. But Zannah is no fool.
She knows that her ruthless Master has begun to doubt her, and she senses that
he is hiding something crucial to her future. If she is going to claim the
power she craves, she must take action now.
While
Bane storms the remote stronghold of a fanatical Sith cult, Zannah prepares for
her Master’s downfall by choosing an apprentice of her own: a rogue Jedi
cunning and cold-blooded enough to embrace the Sith way and to stand beside her
when she at last wrests from Bane the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith.
But
Zannah is not the only one with the desire and power to destroy Darth Bane.
Princess Serra of the Doan royal family is haunted by memories of the monstrous
Sith soldier who murdered her father and tortured her when she was a child.
Bent on retribution, she hires a merciless assassin to find her tormentor–and
bring him back alive to taste her wrath.
Only a
Sith who has taken down her own Master can become Dark Lord of the Sith. So
when Bane suddenly vanishes, Zannah must find him–possibly even rescue
him–before she can kill him. And so she pursues her quarry from the grim depths
of a ravaged world on the brink of catastrophe to the barren reaches of a
desert outpost, where the future of the dark side’s most powerful disciples
will be decided, once and for all, by the final, fatal stroke of a lightsaber.
Star Wars: The Jedi Path
(A Manual for Students of the Force) (Amazon-exclusive)
US book (non-fiction?): written by Daniel
Wallace
hardcover
(160 pages), becker&mayer!, ISBN 1-603-80096-9, SRP: $ 99.99
from amazon.com: The Jedi Path, Fully
Illustrated, with Removable Features and a Mechanical Vault With the push of a button, the doors of the vault
open in a wash of light and Star Wars sound effects. The inner platform rises,
revealing this exclusive edition of The
Jedi Path.
This ancient training manual, crafted by
early Jedi Masters, has educated and enlightened generations of Jedi. It explains
the history and hierarchy of the Jedi Order, and what Jedi must know to take
their place as defenders of the peace in the galaxy—from mastery of the Force
to the nuances of lightsaber combat.
Passed down from Master to Padawan, the
pages of this venerable text have been annotated by those who have held it,
studied it, and lived its secrets. From Yoda and Luke Skywalker to Count Dooku
and Darth Sidious, they have shaped the content of the book by leaving mementos
tucked within the pages, tearing out pages, and adding their personal
experiences as tangible reminders of the lessons they’ve learned.
Through wars and rebellion, only a single copy of this manual has survived. It
is now passed on to you.
The ancient Masters who wrote the text: Fae
Coven, Grand Master and head of the Jedi Council; Crix Sunburris, Jedi Ace
starfighter pilot; Restelly Quist, Jedi Chief Librarian; Skarch Vaunk, Jedi
Battlemaster and lightsaber expert; Bowspritz, Jedi Biologist and expert on the
Living Force; Sabla-Mandibu, Jedi Seer and Holocron expert; Morrit Ch’gally,
Jedi Recruiter; Gal-Stod Slagistrough, Jedi leader of the Agricultural Corps.
Jedi who added personal commentary: Yoda,
Thame Cerulian, Count Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker,
Ahsoka Tano, Darth Sidious, and Luke Skywalker.
Removable features: A
letter tracing the book’s history, a severed Padawan braid, a metal Jedi Credit
medallion, a Jedi starfighter patch, a burned poster of the Jedi Code, a map of
the Jedi Temple, a lightsaber diagram sketched on the back of a napkin from
Dex’s Diner, and a note on the missing pages torn from the book by a Sith.
Created in collaboration with
Lucasfilm—along with an acclaimed Star Wars author and revered Star Wars
illustrators—this volume provides new insights into the history and lore of the
Jedi Order while introducing never-before-seen ships, creatures, characters,
and details about how one trains to become a Jedi.
Daniel Wallace at his blog (August 20, 2010): Reminder: The Jedi Path is an Amazon
exclusive and you can't get it at your local bookstore. It officially goes on
sale September 28 but is available for
preorder at the product page for 37% off (and free shipping!)
Daniel Wallace at his blog (July 18, 2010): The book itself contains the wisdom
of eight revered Jedi who put their thoughts to paper approximately 1,000 years
before the events of the movies. This particular copy was printed approx a
century before the movies, falling into the consecutive hands of Yoda, Thame
Cerulian, Count Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka
Tano, Darth Sidious, and Luke Skywalker. All of the owners left handwritten
comments in the margins so they could complain, educate, mope, or gloat.
Daniel Wallace at DK.com: The Jedi Path is a book from becker&mayer! coming out this summer, which
resembles a "lost journal" containing the teachings of the galaxy's
greatest Jedi Masters with annotations scrawled in its margins handwritten by
Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, Luke Skywalker, and others.
from Becker & Mayer’s
September 2009 Catalog: Handed down through generations, this venerable text reveals the history
and training practices of a Jedi Knight—progressing from Youngling to Padawan,
to Knight, and ultimately to Master. The ancient text is annotated with
comments from Jedi-in-training through the ages along with notes, drawings, and
objects they have left tucked in the pages.
Items include: Jedi Code
poster, student’s map of the Jedi Temple, lightsaber diagram, Jedi Starfighter
patch, severed Padawan braid, and a commemorative JedCred.

from randommhouse.com: As ruthless apprentice to Darth Vader, Starkiller was
mercilessly schooled in the ways of the dark side, commanded to exterminate the
last of the purged Jedi Order, and groomed for the ultimate Sith power play:
assassination of the Emperor. He served without question, killed without
remorse, and lost his heart without warning to beautiful Imperial fighter pilot
Juno Eclipse, never suspecting that he was just a tool in the schemes of his
masters—until it was too late to escape their lethal betrayal.
Juno mourned Starkiller as dead...but now he is back,
purged of all memories and programmed to kill. And as fate brings Juno and
Starkiller closer to reuniting, with Darth Vader determined not to lose his
assassin a second time, they will both have to make a stand. The prize is
freedom. The punishment for failing will be eternal enslavement to the dark
side of the Force...

The Making of
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back: The Definite Story
behind
the Film
US book (non-fiction): Del
Rey, by J.W. Rinzler, foreword by Ridley Scott
hardcover,
Del Rey (372 pages), ISBN 0-345-50961-7, SRP: $ 85.00
from JW Rinzler’s blog
(May 6, 2010): Yep, Del Rey books is promoting the heck out of this
one. We're even working on a promotional video piece, which is a first for us. There
will be a sizzler version and a longer "director's cut" version.
It'll debut in June or July. Anyway, this book has been probably the most fun
to write. Also I laid out the images for this one, which was additional fun.
Instead of hoping a designer would get it right, I was able to manipulate the
images to my heart's content. The images and words should now come together for
the reader to tell the cast and crew's unbelievable Empire stories.
flap-copy from starwars.com (January 19, 2010): In this lavish thirtieth-anniversary tribute to the blockbuster film
StarWars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, New York Times bestselling author
J. W. Rinzler draws back the curtain to reveal the intense drama and
magnificent wizardry behind the hit movie—without doubt the fan favorite of the
Star Wars saga.
Following his The Making of Star Wars, the author has once again made
use of his unlimited access to the Lucasfilm Archives and its hidden treasures
of previously unpublished interviews, photos, artwork, and production mementos.
The result is a comprehensive behind-the-scenes, up-close-and-personal look at
the trials and triumphs, risks and close calls, inspiration, perspiration, and
imagination that went into every facet of this cinematic masterpiece. Here's the
inside scoop on:
- the evolution of the script, from story conference and treatment to
fifth draft, as conceived, written, and rewritten by George Lucas, famed
science-fiction author Leigh Brackett, and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan
- the development of new key characters, including roguish hero Lando
Calrissian, sinister bounty hunter Boba Fett, and iconic Jedi Master Yoda
- the challenges of shooting the epic ice planet battle in the frozen
reaches of Norway and of conjuring up convincing creatures and craft—from
tauntauns and snowspeeders to Imperial walkers
- the construction of a life-sized Millennium Falcon and the swamp
planet Dagobah inside a specially built soundstage in Elstree Studios
the technique behind master Muppeteer Frank Oz's breathing life into the
breakthrough character Yoda
- the creation of the new, improved Industrial Light & Magic visual
effects facility and the founding of the nowlegendary Skywalker Ranch
In addition, of course, are rare on-the-scene interviews with all the
major players: actors Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee
Williams, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and David Prowse; director Irvin
Kershner; producer Gary Kurtz; effects specialists Richard Edlund, DennisMuren,
Ken Ralston, and Phil Tippett; composer John Williams; and many others.
Punctuating the epic account is a bounty of drawings, storyboards, and
paintings by Ralph McQuarrie, Joe Johnston, and Ivor Beddoes, along with
classic and rare production photos. An added bonus is a Foreword by acclaimed
director Ridley Scott.
The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is a fittingly glorious
celebration of an undisputed space-fantasy moviemilestone. Search your
feelings, you know it to be true.
from starwars.com (August 30, 2009): While you may have caught a glimpse of this upcoming book in our
Comic-Con coverage a couple weeks ago, we've now got a clean cover image of The
Making of The Empire Strikes Back by Lucasfilm's J.W. Rinzler to share.
We're able to report that early passes of this book
are absolutely brimming with never-before-published photos, and the length
matches that of the deluxe Star Wars edition printed two years ago -- 372
pages. Foreword by Alien/Blade Runner/Gladiator director Ridley Scott.
The Making of the Empire Strikes Back will be
available in 2010 and is being published by Del Rey Books. Stay tuned to
starwars.com for further reports of this highly-anticipated book to be released
for Empire's 30th anniversary...
information from Star Wars Insider # 92, March/April
2007:“J.W. Rinzler (LucasBooks executive editor)
says tentative plans are afoot to reissue the making-of books for The Empire
Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, with Alan Arnold and John Philip Peecher’s
original manuscripts supplemented by a wealth of images.”
information from starwars.com,
April 23, 2007: Question: Is there other archival material, for example relating to the
two sequels, that has yet to come to light? Is this the last "Making
Of" book?
J.W. Rinzler: Well, the next two already
have published books out there. But there is a ton of never-seen-before visual
material that we could publish. A lot depends on how The Making of Star Wars does
in the marketplace. If it's a success, then I'll be able to leverage deluxe
versions, with many more photos and art, for Empire and Jedi -- perhaps for
their anniversaries.

Star Wars: Knight Errant: Aflame # 1 (of 5)
US comic: written
by John Jackson Miller, art by Federico Dallocchio / cover by Joe Quinones /
variant cover by Dave Ross
comic
(40 pages), Dark Horse Comics
solicitation copy: More than one
thousand years before Luke Skywalker, a dark age grips the galaxy as an
ineffectual Republic abandons entire systems to Sith control. A newly knighted
Jedi on her first mission, eighteen-year-old Kerra Holt has joined a band of
Jedi volunteers traveling deep behind enemy lines, with no support from the
Republic and little chance of survival. She thinks she is prepared for
anything. She's wrong.
John Jackson Miller is also writing a Knight Errant novel for Del Rey
starring Kerra Holt in an original adventure! See her here first!
John Jackson Miller at MTV’s
Splash Page (July 7, 2010):
Set a millennia before “Episode I”, Knight Errant finds the Republic in one of
its darkest hours – centuries, is more like it. In the outer regions of the
galaxy, an alarming number of warlords has risen. Followers of ancient Sith
teachings, many declare themselves Sith Lords and set up their own despotic
mini-empires, all vying against each other for the right to finish the Republic
off. Ravaged by warfare and plague, the Republic is forced into a wide range of
unprecedented emergency actions, from selecting Jedi as Chancellors to deactivating
the communication systemss that connect the outer regions of the galaxy with
the core.
But not all Jedi Knights are willing to accept a role
limited to defending the Republic. Kerra well knows that if the Sith stop
fighting amongst themselves, the Republic could well find all its enemies
united against it. So the state of galactic politics is chaotic, indeed. And if
you’re unfortunate enough to live underfoot while these titans battle, it’s
sheer misery.
Ultimately, Kerra is faced with a number of choices
about what she really ought to be doing, and what her role really is. What does
it mean to be a Jedi Knight, alone, without the Jedi Order behind her? How do
you keep peace and order in a place where none has existed for decades? Staying
alive is Job #1, and will be difficult enough — but then, she’s got to figure
out what else she should be doing.
Sue Rostoni at the starwars.com
forums (February 11, 2010): Regarding KNIGHT ERRANT -- that is the book title.
It's also the over-arching comic series title. Each mini-series within the
overall series will have it's own, individual title.
from John
Jackson Miller’s blog (February 10, 2010): The comics series launches later in 2010.
The novel, due in 2011, is not an adaptation of the comics series, but a brand
new story set in the same continuity. The series and novel both follow the adventures
of Kerra Holt, a young Jedi knight living in what's been termed the Dark Ages
for the Republic — a thousand years before Episode I, and more than a
generation before Darth Bane introduced the Rule of Two. Sith are plentiful in
this era. How do you keep order when chaos is everywhere?
press release (February 10, 2010): Coming off the heels of penning the breakout hit Mass Effect: Redemption
and the gripping finale of Knights of the Old Republic, writer John Jackson
Miller introduces us to Kerra Holt, a young Jedi who’s about to realize that
her role in the galaxy is far more important, and vastly different, than she
could have ever imagined.
Set one thousand years before Episode I, in a time referred to as the
“Dark Age of the Republic,” this story takes place in an era when the Sith were
legion and the Republic was strained to the breaking point, leaving large
swaths of the galaxy with no one to turn to. This pivotal time in the history
of Star Wars has been largely unexplored, until now.
Additionally, for the first time ever, the writer of this new comics
series will also be authoring a novel for Del Rey Books, set in the same era
and involving the same cast of characters in an all-new adventure. It’s going
to be a unique event for Star Wars, and one that will give fans a whole new
perspective on the galaxy.
“There’s such wonderful chaos going on in the galaxy in this period,”
said writer John Jackson Miller. “More than a generation before Darth Bane
introduced the Rule of Two, Sith Lords are colliding not just with the
Republic, but with each other. Kerra’s going to find that good intentions just
may not be enough in a galaxy gone mad! This is a wide-open area to explore,
and I’m thrilled that Dark Horse and Del Rey have given me this opportunity to do
so.”
“With John writing both the comics and the novel, Knight Errant will be
a Star Wars story on a scale we've never undertaken before," said
comic-series editor Dave Marshall. “This will be a first-of-its-kind
opportunity to introduce the Expanded Universe of the Dark Horse comics to the
fans of the Del Rey novels and vice versa!”
With more news in the coming months, look for Star Wars: Knight Errant
to arrive on shelves later this fall!
from starwars.com (February 10, 2010): Dark
Horse Comics and Del Rey Books are collaborating to tell all new Star Wars
stories in a previously unexplored timeframe, and they're turning to fan
favorite author John Jackson Miller to shed light on some of the darkest times
of the Galactic Republic. Readers are familiar with Miller's work on the
recently completed Knights of the Old Republic comic series, and the Lost Tribe
of the Sith novellas.
Under the series title of Star Wars: Knight Errant, this story will
first arrive as an ongoing comic series published by Dark Horse Comics later
this year. Then, next year, Del Rey will publish a Knight Errant novel, also
written by Miller, featuring an all-new adventure.
The story takes place more than 1,000 years before the events of A New
Hope, during the Dark Age of the Republic when the Sith were powerful. It's
more than a generation before Sith in-fighting led to the rise of Darth Bane,
and his restrictive "rule of two" that restructured the order to
operate in the shadows. In this timeframe, the Republic is in shambles,
crippled by plague and war, and the Sith are dominant.
Miller's stories will not only explore the complex schemes of competing
Sith Lords, including families trying to hold onto power and position amid the
threats of ambitious rivals, but also the struggle of a valiant few Jedi
willing to face the enemy head-on, in systems and sectors that the Republic has
abandoned.
"While the Jedi are doing their best to keep order in what remains
of the Republic, those living in this crazy-quilt of Sith dominions are in
constant danger," Miller said. "If their abusive rulers weren't bad
enough, constant internal warfare means no place is safe. Knight Errant asks
what it means to be a Jedi outside the Republic, in a time and place where no
other hope exists. I've greatly enjoyed working with Dark Horse and Del Rey on
KOTOR and Lost Tribe, and I'm really excited about the opportunity to develop a
new part of the timeline in two media at once."
Look to Star Wars Insider #116 for an exclusive interview with John
Jackson Miller where he gets into some specifics regarding the characters. (The
interview, conducted some time ago, uses the comic series' working title of
Jedi).

Star Wars: Visions

George Lucas, foreword by Jonathan W. Rinzler
hardcover
(176 pages), Abrams Books / Acme / Lucasfilm Ltd. Fine Art, ISBN 0-8109-9589-1,
SRP: $ 40.00
from JW Rinzler’s blog
(May 6, 2010): I've been working on this book off and on since 2005.
You can tell by what's been revealed on starwars.com what it is-and it's pretty
special. Many fantastic artists have created beautiful paintings inspired by
the Saga. In fact we ended up with so many topnotch artworks that Abrams Books
added a Limited Edition, too. More on that later in the year. We recently did a
tie-in with TOPPS trading cards. Don't know if anyone spotted those SW: Visions
cards-there were three of them: Donato Giancola, Gene Colan, and Ed Binkley.
from starwars.com
(March 29, 2010): When Star Wars debuted in
1977, it revolutionized the visual landscape of mainstream American filmmaking,
transporting fans to new galaxies and introducing them to countless now-classic
characters, costumes, aliens, planets, and starships. By 2005, with the last
film in theaters, the Star Wars Saga had become a phenomenon impacting cultures
across the globe.
From the beginning, the Star Wars aesthetic was influenced by comic book
artists from the 1930s to the 1970s, famed illustrators Chesley Bonestell, John
Berkey, Frank Frazetta, and others, as well as classical artists. Just as
George Lucas drew upon the work of N. C. Wyeth and Norman Rockwell for his own
visual inspiration, he has now invited more than 100 of the best working
illustrators, designers, cartoonists, and fine artists to create new work based
on or inspired by their favorite characters, themes, landscapes, and moments
from the Star Wars Universe.
Star Wars: Visions collects the very best of these works together for
the first time, celebrating more than thirty years of Star Wars with a roster
of talent working in every style and genre. Capturing the imagination, beauty,
and breadth of the films, television series, and more, Star Wars Visions is
both a tribute to and a new way of experiencing a galaxy far, far away.
For the past six months, StarWars.com has been offering glimpses of some
of the works featured in this collection. As we countdown until the Fall
release of this hardcover art book from Abrams Books, we will continue to
showcase new pieces.
Star Wars: Visions features the art of a wide range of the best and
upcoming artists, illustrators, designers, and cartoonists working today --
including Amano, Allan R. Banks, Harley Brown, Gary Carter, James Christensen,
Michael Coleman, Kinuko Craft, Jim Dietz, Phillipe Druillet, Donato Giancola,
Ann Hanson, H. R. Giger, Daniel Greene, Ron Kleeman, Arantza Martinez, Syd
Mead, Moebius, Paul Oxborough, Alex Ross, Anthony J. Ryder, Dolfi Stoki,
William Stout, Dan Thompson, Julie Bell and Boris Vallejo, Scott Waddell, Yuqi
Wang, and Jamie Wyeth.
The result is a breakthrough tribute to the worldwide inspiration that
Star Wars has fostered for more than three decades. Star Wars: Visions features
a foreword by George Lucas, and an introduction by J.W. Rinzler. It is a
hardcover release, 176 pages, 12.5 x 10.5 inches, with 120 full-color and
black-and-white illustrations.
from amazon: Star Wars Visions
collects a wealth of art - hand-picked by George Lucas - produced by a variety
of artists, illustrators, designers and cartoonists, working across all genres
and styles to celebrate their favourite characters, themes, worlds and moments from
the Star Wars Universe. The full list of contributors is to be released
incrimentally over the 6 months leading up to publication, with sneak previews,
on starwars.com.

Adult Swim
from the starwars.com
(July 12, 2010): Adult Swim's Robot Chicken
returns to that galaxy far, far away for a brand-new Star Wars-themed special
premiering December 12 at 11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). This third installment in the

resulted in multiple Emmy nominations and numerous Annie Awards for both
specials, the writers, Ahmed Best for voice actor and Seth Green for directing.
Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III, to be directed by Chris McKay, marries

universe. The specials and the Robot Chicken series, the highest-rated original
program on Adult Swim, are created in conjunction with ShadowMachine Films' Alex
Bulkley and Corey Campodonico.
"We're telling more of a linear story this time that covers the
series from start to finish," says Green. Senreich says, "We wanted
to take the Star Wars universe and see if through the eyes of our Robot
Chicken: Star Wars Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Gary the
Stormtrooper. We'll still flip around the universe but we'll get a unique
perspective from the bad guy side, from people who just want to rule the
universe."
Robot Chicken: Star wars Episode III will feature Zac Efron as Anakin
Skywalker, Anthony Daniels (from the original Star Wars films) as C-3PO, Mike
Henry (The Cleveland Show) and Donald Glover (Community), all making their
first appearance in RCSW. Also returning from the previous specials are Billy

Star Wars: Legacy: War # 1 (of 6)
US comic: written by John Ostrander,
pencils and cover by Jan Duursema, inks by Dan Parsons, colors by Brad Anderson
comic (40
pages), Dark Horse Comics, SRP: $ 3.50
solicitation copy: You can’t
keep a bad Sith down!
Darth Krayt has returned from the “dead,” stronger,
more evil, and more determined than ever to crush the galaxy under his heel. With
Emperor Roan Fel’s Imperials, the Galactic Alliance, the Jedi, and even some of
his own Sith followers arrayed against him, Krayt would seem overmatched—but
his enemies have not reckoned with the power of the dark side!
If Cade Skywalker was ever going to run from his
legacy, now would be the time!
from starwars.com
(August 12, 2010): 2011 will be a banner
year for Dark Horse Comics. They will they be celebrating twenty five years of
publishing and twenty years of Star Wars comics. Vice president of publishing
Randy Stradley and others were on hand to announce the latest news at
Celebration V.
The long-running Legacy series has come to an end with issue #50, but
the adventures of Cade Skywalker aren't over yet. Legacy - War is a 6-issue
series that marks the return of the dreaded Sith Emperor Darth Krayt! The
orginal Legacy team of John Ostrander and Jan Duursema are on hand to write and
draw these major battles of galactic war. As Jan hinted at the panel, "Not
everyone is going to survive this one." The Jedi, Galactic Alliance,
Imperial Knights, and Cade Skywalker must all band together to quell the tide
of the rising Sith Empire. Watch for the first issue to hit comic book stores
this December.
from MTV’s Splashpage (August 5, 2010): John Ostrander: "Legacy—War" stands alone. I’m making no
guarantees that anyone will survive the end of it. That’s usually hype, but
readers should take that very very seriously. Could there be a successor? Depends on sales, response, and Dark Horse's
plans. However, Jan and I are taking all the stops out in this story. There are
no plans for anything "Legacy" after this. That’s how we’re creating
it.
Jan Duursema: I wish I could say this was the beginning of a series
of new "Legacy" stories because I can think of a thousand more
stories I would like to tell, but we've plotted "Legacy—War" to be
the end of the series. Destruction is the order of the day and it is entirely
possible that few will survive. Those who do will be forever changed.
John Ostrander: There are alliances and betrayals on all sides. Krayt,
because of his experiences, has a new vision of the galaxy – or of how to
accomplish his overall goal -- that is frightening. Cade also has a vision of a
final shattering conflict that could leave him dead – or inalterably changed.
He won’t be the only one tempted by the dark side. Characters all over the
story will have to make final, possibly fatal, decisions. The status quo at the
beginning will NOT be the status quo at the end. I’m not promising a happy
ending for anyone here.
Jan Duursema: The first issue throws us right into the thick of
things. Be ready for a major Sith battle in issue one. Major.
Cade has gone through some interesting development by
the end of issue 50 and the repercussions of that are seen in "Legacy—War."

Family Guy Episode VI: It’s a Trap!
US
television series
DVD/Blu-Ray, 20th Century Fox
from starwars.com (July 27, 2010): Feel the Farce as Family Guy Presents the
Final Uncensored Chapter of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi on Blu-Ray and DVD
December 21st.
Return to
a galaxy... far, far away as the freakin' sweet saga continues when
"Family Guy: It's A Trap!" arrives exclusively on Blu-ray and DVD
December 21 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. In the third
installment of the unique and hilarious animated parody of the Star Wars
trilogy, the Griffins reprise their roles in this hilarious retelling of Star
Wars: Return of the Jedi.
In this spectacular and offensively uproarious final chapter, Luke
Skywalker (Chris) and Princess Leia (Lois) must travel to Tatooine to free Han
Solo (Peter) by infiltrating the wretched stronghold of Jabba the Hutt (Joe), the
galaxy's most loathsome and dreadful gangster. Reunited, the Rebels team up
with a tribe of Ewoks to combat the Imperial forces on the forest moon of
Endor. Meanwhile the Emperor (Carter Pewterschmidt) and Darth Vader (Stewie)
conspire to turn Luke to the dark side, and young Skywalker is determined to
rekindle the spirit of the Jedi within his father. The Galactic Civil War has
never been more outrageous, as the Rebel forces gather to attack the seemingly
defenseless and incomplete second Death Star in the battle that will determine
the fate of the galaxy.
Adding to the fun, "Family Guy: It's A Trap!" is loaded with
hysterical cameo voice spots including Patrick Stewart and Michael Dorn
reprising their roles from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Adam West
("Batman"), Carrie Fisher (Star Wars Trilogy) and conservative talk
radio juggernaut Rush Limbaugh as the voice of a large carnivorous reptomammal,
the Rancor.
"Family Guy" is one of the top selling TV on DVD franchises in
the marketplace, due in large part to the enormous success of the Star Wars
parodies," said Mike Dunn, President, Twentieth Century Fox Home
Entertainment. "Seth MacFarlane and the creative and passionate writers
and animators at Fuzzy Door Productions have done it again with the latest
installment; it is some of their finest work to date."
As an added bonus, "Family Guy: It's A Trap!" will also be
available in Blu-ray and DVD triple-packs featuring all the Star Wars
spoofs...the perfect gift for the holiday season.
from familyguy.wikia: Peter retells the story of Return of the Jedi.
Originally titled 'The Great Muppet Caper'. The cast of characters has yet to
be determined, but the producers have implied that due to the declining number
of characters in Family Guy, characters from The Cleveland Show and American
Dad will be included.
from James
Hibberd’s Live Feed (March 4, 2009):
Family Guy will extend its full-episode Star Wars parodies to the third film in
the George Lucas series: Return of the Jedi. The show’s cast completed a table
read yesterday for a Jedi spoof script, which is tentatively titled Episode VI:
The Great Muppet Caper.
from the starwarsblog.com
(August 3, 2009): The original title of the
upcoming Return of the Jedi spoof that they are already working on was originally titled Episode
VI: The Great Muppet Caper, but they thought it might be too confusing for people who might be
trying to buy the actual Great
Muppet Caper. So the title is now We Have a Bad Feeling About This.

Star Wars: Red Harvest
US book (fiction):
written by Joe Schreiber
hardcover (256 pages), Del Rey, ISBN 0-345-51117-1, SRP: $ 27.00
from Sue Rostoni’s
blog (July 13, 2010): Sith Zombies run amok.
from the Random
House Publishing Group: Title Information Catalog Spring 2011 (page 80): Building on the success of Fall 2009’s New York Times bestselling Star
Wars: Death Troopers, an original tale of zombie terror set in the Star Wars
universe by up-and-coming horror master Joe Schreiber.
With enormous buzz and anticipation, Star Wars: Death Troopers was the
first time the Star Wars galaxy had entered the realm of horror, a book Seth
Grahame-Smith, New York Times bestselling author of Pride and Prejudice and
Zombies, called “the Star Wars of every horror fan’s dreams – gory, funny, and
brimming with a blood-spattered cast of swashbucklers and space-zombies.” Now,
the horror continues in a whole new adventure bringing Sith and Jedi both
face-to-face with the undead in the dark times of the Old Republic.
Strange things are happening in a Sith academy, where the Dark Lord in
charge has barricaded himself away, unexplained violence is on the rise, and
the apprentices are growing more and more frightened. When a mercenary arrives
with a delivery for the Sith Lord – and a hostage Jedi in tow – the situation
reaches a boiling point. Only a Jedi Master, looking for the missing Jedi, can
hope to get her – and himself – out alive.
Sue Rostoni at the sw.com
forums (April 23, 2010): Oh, and the novel BLACK ORCHID to be written by Joe
Schreiber is getting a new title.... some folks weren't keen on this one --
thought it sounded like a Romance Novel!!! Argh!!!! [I'm a bit disappointed
because my brother's high school garage band was named The Black Orchids. I
thought it was pretty cool.]
from Sue Rostoni’s
blog (February 12, 2010): email string: Discussion with Shelly Shapiro at Del
Rey regarding the title to Joe Schreiber's new SW novel. Should it be THE BLACK
ORCHID or BLACK ORCHID. We settle on STAR WARS: BLACK ORCHID.
Sue Rostoni at the sw.com
forums (January 12, 2010): The next horror novel by Joe Schreiber is tentatively
set for February 2011.
from Joe
Schreiber’s starwars.com interview (October 17, 2009): I just finished the next book and sent it to Shelly Shapiro. It's a
prequel that deals with the virus [from Death Troopers] and where it came from.
from Sue Rostoni’s
blog (August 13, 2009): Oh, is this the first you've heard of this? The first
book did so well (I'm projecting here) that we decided another was in order.
Just to note -- this isn't a sequel to DEATH TROOPERS -- it's a stand-alone.
